The Director of Finance will be a key leader within the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, auditing, and financial reporting. This position is critical to ensuring the financial health of the organization and plays a central role in guiding A3's financial strategy and operational improvements. The Director of Finance will work closely with the A3 Leadership Team, Staff and Board of Directors to establish financial goals, ensure profitability, and drive organizational success through sound financial management.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Financial Leadership and Budgeting

  • Establish and control budgets across all departments to align with A3's strategic objectives.
  • Drive operational improvements in forecasting and financial reporting processes.
  • Establish profitability standards and set financial goals to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of the association.


Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Present comprehensive financial results to upper management, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Analyze business metrics to enhance the financial performance of the association, offering regular analysis of financials against previous periods.
  • Collaborate with senior management to model business ideas, informing pricing strategies and financial decision-making.


Collaboration and Liaison Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary liaison between upper management and board members on all financial matters.
  • Create and evaluate internal financial reports, ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in the association’s reporting systems.
  • Work closely with financial advisors to establish best practices for investments and cash management.


Process Improvement and Systems Management

  • Review and refine data systems to ensure efficient integration between accounting software and association databases.
  • Implement and manage efficient financial processes and reporting mechanisms across the organization.


Team Leadership and Development

  • Hire, train, and manage senior financial management staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the finance team, ensuring alignment with A3’s goals and objectives.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Previous experience as a Director of Finance or in a similar leadership role, with a proven track record of success in financial management within a corporate or association setting.
  • BA or MA in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of investment strategies and cash management best practices.
  • Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills, capable of analyzing complex financial data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with senior leadership.
  • Team player with a sense of ownership and pride in the financial success of the association.
  • Exceptional time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Work is primarily conducted in an office setting, with the following physical capacities required:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push up to 100 pounds using a cart or other wheeled device.
  • Effective communication skills for phone and in-person interactions.
  • Clear vision for reading financial reports, computer screens, and administrative documents, with or without corrective lenses.

  • Ability to travel for up to a week at a time, utilizing various forms of transportation.
