Job DescriptionJob Description

Who We Are

We're a forward-thinking, distributed game studio founded by the creators behind titles like Journey, What Remains of Edith Finch, Blaseball, Dustforce, Ashen, Guild Wars 2, Firewatch, and more Our name reflects our mission: to cultivate rich, immersive worlds that foster meaningful connections and lasting friendships. We believe in creating lush, living environments where players can engage in surprising multiplayer experiences and grow together with the support of their communities.

Our commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and transparency drives us to create a work environment where every voice is heard and valued. As a fully-distributed studio, we support our team in living and working from wherever they choose, offering competitive pay, stock options, flexible non-accrual paid time off, 35-hour work weeks, and comprehensive benefits, including full medical, vision, dental, and 401k contributions.

We're excited to be developing our flagship project — a shared 3D fantasy adventure inspired by our favorite online gaming memories. This is the world we’re passionate about building and the world we want to experience every day.

About The Role:

We believe in the power of play to connect people and create lasting communities. As our Community Manager, you’ll be at the heart of this mission, crafting strategies that resonate with players, fostering connections that transcend the screen, and guiding the community through the rich worlds we create. You’ll be more than just a voice; you’ll be an advocate, a strategist, and a bridge between our players and our development team. Your work will reflect the care and creativity that define our studio, ensuring that every interaction with our community is as thoughtful and engaging as the games we craft.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Communication: Develop and implement communication strategies for every phase of our development cycle, from early playtesting to post-launch. Your work will ensure that our players are not just informed, but fully engaged throughout the development journey.

  • Creative Engagement Campaigns: Partner with Marketing and Design to execute innovative campaigns that immerse players in the lore and mysteries of our game worlds, turning interest into evangelism.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with our development, production, live services, and QA teams to create detailed and engaging materials, such as patch notes, development diaries, and live operations updates.

  • Channel Strategy: Advise on the most effective social and communication channels for each stage of development, ensuring that our message reaches the right audience at the right time.

  • Community Building: Nurture relationships with creators and leaders in like-minded communities, cultivating a Golden Cohort of players who will champion our games.

  • Player Advocacy: Act as the primary point of contact for our community, producing content such as vlogs, newsletters, podcasts, AMAs, and live-streams that keep our players connected and informed.

  • Feedback Pipeline: Develop scalable processes that bring valuable player feedback to our developers, ensuring that player voices are heard and considered in our development process.

  • Holistic Player Insight: Provide valuable input on how research, player support, quality assurance, and telemetry can deliver a holistic understanding of the player experience.

  • Reporting & Recommendations: Deliver regular reports on player sentiment, community trends, and growth, offering strategic recommendations to enhance our community engagement.

  • Evolving Strategies: Stay ahead of industry trends and player behaviors, continuously refining our community strategy to meet the changing needs of our players.

Requirements:

  • Community Leadership: Proven experience in building and leading a community both pre-launch and post-launch, ideally for a live-service game that generates revenue.

  • Collaborative Spirit: A lack of ego and a strong ability to collaborate across teams, ensuring that the best ideas rise to the top.

  • Independent & Strategic: Ability to work autonomously and navigate ambiguity, crafting strategies that resonate with our unique community.

  • Passionate & Informed: A deep passion for games, particularly in the genre of 3rd-Person Survival Crafting, MMORPG and Sandbox genres coupled with solid industry knowledge.
