ROLE OVERVIEW:

The primary purpose of this position is to lead the transportation department for the assigned location by delivering outstanding customer service to a broad customer base at the most efficient cost. Must ensure a safe and secure working environment and operate in a profitable manner.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Direct and supervise the work and productivity of drivers and supervisors
  • Ensure all drivers and supervisors are appropriately trained in job duties and safety & legal responsibilities
  • Anticipate, analyze and troubleshoot problems with deliveries and devises cost-effective and legal solutions; and acts to implement same
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Transportation Division
  • Foster an atmosphere of communication and encourage and motivate associates to achieve departmental goals and objectives
  • Maintain appropriate records for all drivers and supervisors
  • Primary investigator of all accidents; Maintain incident records and take appropriate preventative action
  • Oversee the delivery process, ensuring efficient delivery routes and schedules
  • Maintain appropriate delivery records and documents

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED

  • Must be 18 or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years Transportation or Delivery experience with 2 years Management experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading, managing and developing teams
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills
  • Experience in forecasting and in P&L analysis
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to interpret and implement all necessary State and Federal transportation laws and regulations (DOT, OSHA, etc.)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • Outstanding Verbal & Written Communication Skills
  • Ability to multi-task with minimal errors
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and within necessary time constraints
  • Ability to successfully manage and deliver complex projects
  • Knowledge of safe work practices
  • Ability to operate various tools and equipment necessary for the position

PREFERRED

  • Previous Transportation Manager experience
  • Previous food service or distribution experience
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Encompass or other ERP system

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee will perform work in these areas:

  • Warehouse dock
  • Office

The noise level in these areas is normally moderate.
