About the Job

SCOPE OF WORK: To help provide family support to incarcerated fathers and their families in the community through supporting the full-time DOC Family Support Specialist at the Family Connections Center at the Northern NH Correctional Facility Berlin, NH. All activities involve working in close and immediate contact with incarcerated individuals daily while maintaining security in the institution.

Location: Northern NH Correctional Facility, Berlin

Position: Family Support Specialist, funded through 6/30/2025*

Schedule: flexible within needs of program; 35 – 40 hours per week, Mon – Thurs evenings

Pay: $21 – 22 / hour starting based on experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college in child development, family studies, social services, psychology, sociology or related field and a minimum of two years’ experience working in a position related to child development or family support.
  • Associate’s degree from a recognized college in fields mentioned above and minimum of three years’ experience in Corrections and having some familiarity or experience with understanding child development and/or family support.
  • Candidates must have a criminal background check completed and must be trained and certified as a New Hampshire Department of Corrections Volunteer.

    *funding for this position will continue past 6/30/2025, however, the fiscal organization will change, hours will decrease to 29, and there will no longer be benefits.

Abilities Needed:

  • Maintains the organization and orderly flow of the Family Connections Center.
  • Schedules, monitors, and completes assessment of video visitation between the incarcerated parents and their children, to include providing parent coaching after each visit.
  • Facilitate support groups and curriculum led classes to participants in the program.
  • Provides administrative support services if needed
  • Coordinates and cooperates with other agencies and the officials at large to ensure optimum effectiveness of the Family Connections Center.
  • Attends relevant staff meetings, conferences, and works with other State agencies if schedules and time permits.
  • Review and mail out recorded audiobooks and books to incarcerated parent’s children.
