OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:

Supervises and coordinates department employees; oversees shipping and receiving activities


RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION:

  • Manage the Receiving Team to ensure all deliveries are scheduled and received on time and in good condition. Accuracy in inventory receipt is vital to the downstream manufacturing process.
  • Identify and implement process improvement enhancements through the use of improved technology, problem solving, etc.
  • Manage the Small Parcel and LTL shipping teams. Required to verify stock, package, configure, secure and rate/route all freight for pickup
  • Establish a system to effectively monitor and account for material that is staged for consolidations or prepared for shipment with a departure date in the future
  • Responsible for the Postal Cell counting, bagging, packaging and overflow stock management systems
  • Pick, pull, stock, cycle count and ship Finished Goods, including hazardous materials, in accordance with established procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate supplies on hand to properly execute shipping/receiving functions
  • Maintain a system of order management complete with identification of changes to existing orders to ensure no shipment misses its scheduled departure date
  • Implement a full Visual Management system that effectively serves as a "scoreboard" of shipping/receiving activities and can be used to measure success of the department hour by hour
  • Maintain Standard Work documents for all sections in the Shipping and Receiving departments
  • Ensure all associates requiring access to forklifts have received training and personnel files are documented accordingly
  • Assist Customer Care in managing customer expectations with full departmental transparency and easy access to information regarding workload, throughput, capacity and potential barriers to success
  • Manage daily freight pickup schedules with constant freight company communication, hour by hour if necessary.
  • Manage employee start/stop times to implement a balanced workload and to eliminate the need for overtime in the shipping/receiving departments
  • Using Lean principles, manage all aspects of the shipping/receiving associate development and training initiatives
  • Responsible for initiating the RMA processing procedure with timely and accurate receipt of goods and cross department notification
  • Manage a freight carrier claims program complete with reporting on outstanding claims and success rate for claims paid
  • Instill in all shipping/receiving associates a sense of pride in their role and ownership for the success of their department by utilizing advanced training techniques and leading by example
  • Any other duties as assigned

  • Required - High School diploma
  • Required – Minimum of five years in a shipping/receiving managerial role
  • Required – Must have strong organizational and communication skills and ability to self-manage
  • Required - Proven ability to effectively lead others
  • Preferred - Bachelors degree in Logistics or Business related field
  • Preferred - Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing Certification
