Homeless Shelter

Position Title:  Resident Assistant

General Description: Responsible for the safety and comfort of the shelter residents. Responds appropriately and professionally to individuals calling ACTS Shelter. Shift coverage is required seven days a week, including holidays. Flexibility in schedule required.

Supervisor: Resident Assistant Coordinator

Essential Job Functions:

1. Oversee the shelter’s daily activities and enforce shelter rules.
2. Remain on shelter premises at all times until authorized to leave.
3. Maintain documentation for and review written log.
4. Answer phones and greet visitors in accordance with shelter procedures.
5. Provides support, information, and referral to ACTS callers.
6. Conduct client intake interviews in accordance with shelter procedures.
7. Conduct client exit interviews in accordance with shelter procedures when required.
8. Provide briefings to incoming staff members concerning residents prior to departing from that shift.
9. Record contact with each resident in resident’s file at least once per shift.
10. In emergencies, contact appropriate aid (fire/rescue or police) and then notify Resident Assistant Coordinator.  Prepare an incident report as soon as circumstances permit.
11. Conduct daily facility and safety check.
12. Organize and supervise household cleaning duties and meal preparation.
13. Greet donors, accept and log all donations in accordance to shelter procedures.
14. Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as assigned by the Resident Assistant Coordinator
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Strong oral and communication skills.
2. Ability to meet the following physical requirements: included but not limited to-bending, squatting, and pushing/pulling/lifting up to 50 pounds, twisting, kneeling and standing/sitting for long periods of time.  
3. Must be mature, responsible individual who can demonstrate the ability to handle stressful situations with calmness, composure and self-control.  
4. Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries in working with clients.
5. Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, organization, and resourcefulness while maintaining a reputation through proven action of being team- and client-oriented and willing to assist where/when needed.
6. Ability to negotiate different personalities and work under competing priorities.
7. Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred

Education and Experience:

1. High School Diploma
2. Experience working in the field of housing, particularly dealing with the issues of Trauma Services, Homelessness,
3. Mandatory CPR, First Aid, Airborne and Bloodborne pathogens, Domestic Violence, NARCAN, and food handling training (to be provided by ACTS).
