Salary Range: $60,000 + DOQ

Summary

Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Operations, the Inwood Ice Arena Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations regarding facility activities/programs, including, but not limited to service contracts, projects, mechanical equipment, chemical management, and building safety.

Essential Duties

  • Develop and execute a system of regularly scheduled maintenance at the Ice Arena to prevent premature failure of the facility and its system and components
  • Oversee the operation and function of the HVAC units for the Ice Arena and Admin Offices
  • Maintain complete historical data concerning the facility, particularly the equipment and components
  • Provide training and direction on an ongoing basis for staff at the Ice Arena, including directing staff on all park policies and procedures
  • Evaluate staff on a regular basis through verbal and written direction to include in annual evaluation
  • Responsible for approving payroll for all Ice Arena staff using park district software, ADP
  • Prepare and submit for approval the budget for the Ice Arena
  • Responsible for continual monitoring of all revenues and expenses and reporting any discrepancies from budgeted amounts to the Director of Operations
  • Work with the Skating Supervisor to coordinate Ice Skating Programs and Ice Show schedules
  • Maintain a fair balance of ice time for each affiliate group according to their needs and in the best interest of the Park District. Responsible for communicating with all users of the ice on a continual basis
  • Responsible for monitoring the ice schedule and assuring the maximum use of the ice at all times using park district software, Office Tracker
  • Responsible for purchasing and billing for all aspects of the ice arena as directed by the Director of Operations
  • In coordination with the Ice Skating Supervisor, responsible for inputting programs into park district software, Sportsman
  • In coordination with the Communications Department and Ice Skating Supervisor, responsible for all marketing and advertising of the Inwood Athletic Club Ice Arena
  • Attend all applicable District staff meetings and communicate all information from District meetings/emails to appropriate staff
  • Responsible for ice maintenance, which includes driving a Zamboni

Hours

Full time, exempt. May include days, evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of the job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and equipment; in high, precarious places; is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and high noise levels, as well as in an office environment and exposure to cold temperatures while in the Ice Arena.

Must be able to work long hours, at many times standing. Ability to lift 100 pounds and lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds occasionally. Frequently lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform moderately to heavy physically intensive tasks, potentially including any combination of the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Ability to operate Park District vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Park & Recreation, or related field or a combination of education/trade certifications and experience
  • Must have at least five (5) years relevant experience with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience in management

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proven ability to draft, edit and produce written contracts for user groups
  • Must have basic computer skills, utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must have knowledge of overall function of HVAC equipment
