Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the engineering, facilities, and machining areas within the manufacturing department. This role involves leading this team and collaborating with various departments to optimize manufacturing processes, improve efficiency, and ensure product quality. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager plays a critical role in implementing continuous improvement initiatives, project management, proposing/implementing capital projects, leading new product launch, and equipment maintenance.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strong leadership to the manufacturing engineering team, including hiring, training, and performance management. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  2. Maintains efficient operations, including setting the priorities and performance of the staff, by recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating all personnel.
  • Directs the work and activities of the team. Provides leadership for employee relations through effective communications and coaching.
  • Monitors, maintains high levels of service to, and works closely with staff.
  • Oversees employee scheduling levels for optimal service.
  • Oversees implementation of policies and programs through staff.
  • Develops, implements, and ensures that effective internal controls are in place.
Develop and implement strategies to optimize manufacturing processes, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. Identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate solutions, such as lean manufacturing techniques, automation, and process redesign.Work closely with quality assurance teams to establish and maintain quality standards and processes. Develop and implement quality control plans, conduct root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions to ensure product quality and reliability.Collaborate with product development teams to ensure successful transfer of new products into manufacturing. Provide engineering support during the NPI process, including design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews, process validation, and production ramp-up.Develop and manage the manufacturing engineering budget, ensuring optimal utilization of resources. Identify equipment and technology needs, coordinate capital expenditure requests, and make informed recommendations.Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the manufacturing engineering department. Lead and support initiatives such as Six Sigma, Kaizen events, and value engineering to drive process enhancements and cost reductions.Evaluates current manufacturing processes and flow of materials / products through the shop by applying knowledge of manufacturing principles and process improvement theories to recommend / implement changes leading to improved efficiency and reduced cost while maintaining quality.Using the resources available, recommends, specifies, justifies, negotiates, and validates new capital equipment and tools.Prepares cost, utilization, efficiency, and other performance metric reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing shop floor data.



* Bachelors' Degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering strongly preferred or a combination of other degree and experience.

* Regulated industry and related compliance requirements background preferred.

* 5+ years of related work experience is highly preferred.

* Prior management experience of both salaried professionals and hourly staff strongly preferred.

* Possess a current driver's license and valid insurance and be able to travel around to various Wipaire locations and the Twin Cities area as needed.

* Expertise in the following areas is preferred: Lean manufacturing (5S, continuous improvement, cell design, plant layout, mistake-proofing), metal forming, component design and fabrication, mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly, machine and tool design.

* Knowledge of materials (mainly aluminum) and associated physical properties, processing characteristics, heat treating, coating and plating specifications is preferred.

* Work as an effective and proactive team player; exhibit flexibility and switch priorities in work duties while maintaining a positive attitude; understands the importance of supporting the organization, customers, and other employees.

* Able to meet FAA regulatory and safety requirements in all aspects of the work.

* Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship building skills to effectively work with a diverse group/variety of people and personalities, including developing relationships with employees, managers, executives, vendors, customers, and staff.

* Establish, document and communicate clear performance expectations and standards. Evaluate, discuss and hold employees accountable for job performance and organizational behavior standards.

* Able to perform HR-related functions including hiring and selection, orienting and training, managing performance, disciplinary action and recommending the termination of employees. Able to understand, administer, and comply with HR policies and procedures.

* Able to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work in a fast-paced environment. Able to work unsupervised, make high level decisions independently, and solve problems effectively and creatively.

* Able to make proactive service decisions and move forward with projects based on available information; able to think analytically and select a solution from many alternatives.

* Hear, speak and effectively verbally communicate in the English language, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.

* Move around the plant area repeatedly throughout the day.
