EHS SPECIALIST (Environmental, Health, Safety)

Status: Exempt
Dept: Operations
Reports to: Director of Human Resources

The EHS Specialist is responsible for the planning and administration of safety and environmental programs. This role is a technical resource to management and employees regarding safety and environmental issues. Oversee, plan, and coordinate overall safety for Phillips facilities. Work closely with site personnel and corporate EH&S resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

SAFETY:

  • Manage and coordinate all activities associated with organizational health and safety programs such as training, inspections, recordkeeping, reviewing, testing, scheduling, reporting, and researching.
  • Coordinate safety programs as they pertain to Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) standards and/or other applicable local, state, and federal requirements and company expectations.
  • Oversees and administers worker's compensation issues and claims.
  • Formulate general safety policies and procedures to be followed by company personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations and model programs.
  • Inspect or tour (or supervises the inspection or touring of) the facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards; recommends corrective and/or preventative measures where appropriate.
  • Participate in or supervise the investigation of accidents and injuries; reviews data for trends and recommend corrective action or preventative measures where indicated.
  • Administer DOT registrations to ensure compliance. Conduct audits of electronic logs.

ENVIRONMENTAL:

  • Track and maintain the necessary information and documentation as it pertains to chemical usage and emissions and any other environmental aspects such as air, wastewater, and storm water.
  • Ensure the necessary compliance permits are up-to-date, accurate and filed with all agencies, as necessary.
  • Regularly inspect/tour company facilities to detect existing or potential hazards, recommend and implement corrective or preventative measures were appropriate

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Work, Outlook).
  • Fundamental knowledge of all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prepare and conduct clear and concise group presentations.
  • Ability to develop plans for accomplishing assigned work and set priorities with a proper sense of urgency.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills: ability to locate and use appropriate company resources.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization and with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to complete work in acceptable timeframe, manage a variety of detailed tasks and responsibilities simultaneously with accuracy to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
  • Ability to develop employees through motivation and training.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, details, and interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of tact, professionalism, and confidentiality.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Works from a normal office setting, however, performs a significant amount of work in all spaces within all facilities; may need to work outside in all types of weather or in all kinds of work environments. Occasional overnight travel is required.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2 years safety experience in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor's degree preferred.
