Job Overview

Position Title: EHS Specialist

Core Responsibilities: The EHS Specialist will assist in the continuous enhancement and management of our environmental, health, and safety initiatives, encompassing the following duties:

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an associate degree in Environmental, Health, or Safety disciplines, or have a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, along with relevant certifications. Experience in Occupational Exposure Control, Behavioral Safety, technical documentation, and employee training is preferred. Strong communication and decision-making abilities are essential, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and the capability to influence personnel across various organizational levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fostering a proactive EHS culture by implementing various safety performance enhancement initiatives and engaging employees in activities.
  • Conducting scheduled and random inspections throughout the facility to identify safety and housekeeping concerns, and following up with Operations and Maintenance to ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Assisting in the leadership of the site's Behavioral Safety Program, which includes training, regular assessments, and analysis of STOP Card data.
  • Overseeing enhancements to the site's Permit to Work Program by collaborating with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to develop Energy Control Procedures.
  • Participating in and monitoring Batch Sheet Safety Reviews.
  • Engaging in Process Hazard Assessments and other Process Safety Management initiatives.
  • Providing backup coverage for EHS personnel during their absences.
  • Conducting monthly organic vapor analysis checks and maintaining required records.
  • Managing Waste Shipment documentation and maintaining an up-to-date tracking spreadsheet for shipments and manifests.
  • Assisting in the drafting, updating, and maintenance of Plant safety guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations regarding the facility's Safety Data Sheets.
  • Supporting incident management efforts, including investigations, preventive measures, and tracking.
  • Overseeing the storage and control of EHS equipment, including PPE and shared equipment vending machines.
  • Compiling data related to incidents, behavioral safety, permits, and Non-Routine Hazard Assessments, and providing weekly EHS performance reports to the EHS&S Manager.
  • Coordinating and tracking new hire and annual respiratory medical evaluations.
  • Collaborating with the Training and Development group to manage the Safety Training Programs for new hires, supervisors, engineers, and hourly employees, while maintaining training documentation and attendance records.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the EHS&S Manager.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be hands-on, with at least 50% of the workday spent engaging with operations.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Provide onsite EHS support during regular hours, with potential weekend and night work as necessary.
