The Domestic Violence Coordinator will provide support, advocacy, and assistance to victims of domestic abuse in overcoming barriers to safety. This position is responsible for crisis intervention, safety planning, outreach, institutional advocacy, awareness and education in a nine-county service area including Pottawattamie, Harrison, Mills, Fremont, Page, Shelby, Audubon, Cass and Montgomery. Provides supervision to staff and programming for the Domestic Violence component and Hispanic Outreach program of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program. The Domestic Violence Coordinator works collaboratively with sexual assault and housing programs to ensure coordination of care. Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with other community agencies. Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Program Managers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and administers the activities of the Domestic Violence and Hispanic Services and Outreach Programs.
  • Assists the Program Managers and Director of Programs in developing and establishing programs goals and objectives.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and measures/reports on program success.
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates domestic violence and bi-lingual advocates, determines work assignments and priorities and participates in personnel selection.
  • Schedules and provides regular individual staff supervision and facilitates team meetings.
  • Develops programming to outreach counties to include court and hospital response, individual and group counseling and community education in collaboration with Sexual Assault and Shelter/Housing Coordinator.
  • Provides direct services to victims of domestic violence in outreach counties in collaboration with law enforcement centers, hospitals, courts, Department of Health and Human Services and county attorney's offices.
  • Monitors program- specific legislation and ensures program compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Performs public relations activities as a program representative, makes program-related presentations to the public.
  • Coordinates the development of training and information and awareness materials to promote public understanding of program activities, services and requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison relationships and coordinates program activities with other departments, public, and private agencies, organizations and community groups.
  • Collaborates with other coordinators to build capacity, communicate effectively, and coordinate and integrate services across the program services.
  • Monitors grant goals, program contracts and/or contractor performance.
  • Participates in the development of the program budget and assists Program Managers in monitoring and administration of program funds.
  • Conducts program-related studies and prepares written reports and recommendations.
  • Prepares routine and special program status reports for federal, state, and county agencies.
  • Works with Volunteer Coordinator to orient, train, and provide task supervision to the volunteers supporting the programming.
  • Analyzes data, prepares and presents quarterly program activity reports and statistical materials for management review.
  • May access or maintain specialized databases containing program- specific information to record activity and generate reports.
  • May assist in writing grant applications and prepare/ review proposals.
  • Actively contribute to and participate in cross-agency work, including all staff meetings, coordinator meetings, agency meetings, etc.
  • Implement safety protocols and activities within the team.
  • Maintain the ability to work flexible hours and provide own transportation.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, both oral and written, preferred.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year accredited college or university with a major in Human Services or Social Services and three years of experience coordinating, monitoring, and/or administering program activities, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant professional-level experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to pass a fingerprint background check
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and effective domestic violence intervention strategies
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of effective supervision and program administration
  • Adept critical thinker and problem solver with demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate response to crisis situations
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
  • Knowledge of community resources in the nine-county service area for survivors and their families
  • Possess strong writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective communication to include written composition and public speaking
  • Ability to work as a team player, exercise independent judgment, be dependable and take initiative
  • Familiarity of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations related to domestic violence
  • Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal accountability
  • Experience producing reports, or pulling together data for another to produce reports
  • Proficiency in computer skills, especially using Outlook, Word, Excel, customized databases, and have some familiarity with data collection
