POSITION PURPOSE

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for sampling and testing raw materials incorporated into asphalt mixtures and end product asphalt mixtures during daily production.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Employee shall perform all duties and responsibilities with Solterra Material's Core Values at the forefront.
  • Must be an advocate of safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct all testing in accordance with Solterra Materials Quality Control Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Field sample asphalt mixtures from jobsites
  • Sample and test stockpiled aggregate materials for mix designs, mix design verification and crusher control.
  • Field and plant sample asphaltic concrete materials and perform tests for compliance with project specifications.
  • Assist with 3rd party sampling at the plant sites.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment in and around Solterra lab locations.
  • Maintain, operate, and calibrate equipment to ensure accurate and representative test results.
  • Properly document, file and share test results.
  • Promptly report any material deficiencies to Product Quality Supervisor and plant personnel as necessary.
  • Obtain and maintain certifications necessary for job duties (ATTI)

SAFETY

  • This position is considered safety sensitive position and is subject to the company's drug and alcohol policy, as well as all OHSA regulations.
  • All employees must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Serves as a safety ambassador by complying with federal, state and local laws, as well as Company safety policy, follows safe work practices, and proactively identifies and remedies worksite hazards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This is a field and laboratory position. Employee will be working in the field and in construction materials testing laboratory.
  • While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other air-borne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and

dust/debris.

  • Employee may spend extended periods of time standing.
  • Lifting 50 lbs.
  • Extended periods of time outdoors, in extremely hot and cold temperatures.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS

  • This is a full-time position. Flexible hours and work locations required
  • Approximately 5 hours of overtime per week, is to be expected.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends, to meet business demands.

TRAVEL

  • Occasional out of town travel may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Work Experience

  • A high school diploma or GED is required, College degree preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of construction materials transportation experience.
  • Operating knowledge of transportation software programs.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations with emotional intelligence.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task and manage competing deadlines in an organized manner.
  • Must be fluent in English, i.e. must be able to speak, read and write English.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean motor-vehicle record. A CDL license is preferred and may even be required for some departments/divisions.
  • Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is required.
