SUMMARY: The Early Childhood Intervention Specialist will serve as a team member and fill the role of child development service coordinator and family involvement specialist. The Early Intervention Specialist will provide multidisciplinary child and family assessments, service coordination, family support activities and education, and child- and family-focused interventions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides individual and group intervention for infants and toddlers from birth to three years old who have developmental delays or who are at risk for delays in the areas of cognitive, adaptive behavior, social-emotional, self-care, fine motor, gross motor, and communication development.
  • Assesses family and child strengths/resources, concerns, and progress. Participates in multidisciplinary assessments; selects and administers assessment instruments and procedures appropriately; interprets and reports test results; completes assessment reports and sends them to appropriate agency. Functions as coordinator for the assessment team.
  • Acts as service coordinator for the family by scheduling, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the intervention plan for each family on caseload, ensuring that appropriate procedures and timelines are followed. Provides families with information on current trends and practices related to the needs of their child.
  • Provides supportive professional assistance to families. Facilitates parent-child interactions to encourage child's development; encourages parents to participate in as normal a lifestyle as possible by developing family strengths and resources; assists families to act as advocates for their child.
  • Assists in interpreting assessment results for family and in determining eligibility for services.
  • Participates in staff meetings, interagency meetings, and activities as assigned.
  • Completes reports, routine documentation, and management procedures as required by agency policies. Provides consultation, training, and screening clinics for outside agencies and interagency groups.
  • Create and provide strategies for teachers and families (ie. Social stories, sensory tools, specialized equipment); model appropriate prevention and intervention techniques.
  • Conduct classroom observations and assessments for both children and educators; provide strengths-based feedback to educators; assist educators in implementing adaptations and accommodations into their lesson plans
  • Audit and assess development-based data collected from staff and families and ensure a 45-day benchmark is met; interpret and create visuals to track children’s developmental progress, share and explain data with staff (educator, administrators) and families.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (Required to perform essential functions)

· Ability to Pass Criminal Background Screening

  • Satisfactory Physical Assessment and TB test
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to type at least 20-25 wpm
  • Medical Database Management, a plus

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Counseling, Early Childhood, Human Development, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education or other related disciplines, plus three years of directly related professional Early Intervention services experience. .

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written communication form information to internal/external vendors/clients, staff and management, and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, business correspondence, and memorandums.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • CPR and First Aid
  • Free from communicable diseases (Tuberculosis-tine test)
  • Physical Assessment
