Position Summary: As a Shop Mechanic at First Star Safety, you will play a crucial role in the upkeep and maintenance of various types of construction equipment and vehicles. This position requires a detailed understanding of diesel mechanics, heavy equipment maintenance, and effective troubleshooting skills.  This role will work at both the Lockland and Franklin locations. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on work trucks, heavy-duty trucks, pavement marketing equipment and other construction equipment. 
  • Performs routine maintenance & service (e.g., checks fluid levels &/or batteries; lubricates joints, hinges &/or latches; changes oil & replaces filters; replaces spark plugs; performs tire changes; services the cooling system; & assists with complex maintenance 
  • Maintains records of repairs & maintenance; (e.g., daily time sheets); orders &/or picks up parts; provides service & repair of vehicles & equipment on emergency basis; &/or makes onsite service/outpost calls  
  •  operates welding torches in order to repair trailers, frames, truck bodies &/or related equipment, 
  • Oversee and ensure the proper functioning of all general mechanical repairs. 
  • Trailered equipment repair including message boards, arrow boards, Dsl 
  • Manage the service reports documenting all maintenance work performed, detailing the parts used and time spent. 
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance the overall operation and efficiency of the equipment. 
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with safety standards. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma, with a strong foundation in vehicle and equipment maintenance 
  • Valid CDL Certification 
  • Mechanical certifications are a plus 
  • Proven experience in diesel mechanics and heavy equipment maintenance. 
  • Skill in operating hand & power tools related to repair & maintenance of vehicles & equipment. 
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. 
  • Previous experience working with pavement marking equipment is a plus 
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to manage time efficiently. 
  • Welding skills and experience with metal fabrication are preferred. Should be skilled in the use of a MIG welder 
  • Ability to repair most aspects of chassis, drivetrain, brakes (including air brakes) and engines on light and medium duty trucks 
  • Automotive electrical diagnostic skills and understanding of wiring schematics  
  • Understanding of Hydraulic Systems 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, to produce correspondence and documents and maintain records, spreadsheets and databases 
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision 
  • Ability to provide own basic tools preferred

Compensation & Benefits:

  • This role can be a Union role or non-union. Union pay rate is $35.52 Per Hour Plus Fringe Benefits. Non-Union rate is negotiable.
