BASIC FUNCTION

As the Texas Medical Association’s in-house copywriter this position would assist all TMA Divisions in editing, and writing original content that meets TMA’s style guide. The copywriter would assist the VP of Communications and Marketing in delivering well-researched and hard-hitting, dynamic copy for a wide variety of projects including print, web, mobile, video, and social media.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS

  1. Collaborate with editorial and marketing teams in the development, writing, and editing of communication materials needed across the Association, like digital marketing copy related to paid-per-click campaigns, social media, ads, emails, newsletter, and web copy as well as speeches, marketing materials, and award applications, etc.
  2. Research and understand a client’s needs and target audiences, through review of existing research, interviews with subject-matter experts, and in-person meetings.
  3. Write original copy and edit content for a wide range of marketing and communications materials.
  4. Revise copy based on internal and client feedback.
  1. Perform other related duties as directed or required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY


No supervisory responsibility. 


INDEPENDENCE/SUPERVISION RECEIVED


Assignments vary daily – this position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment to determine the correct course of action needed per project.

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS


Knowledge and Experience:


Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in journalism, English, communications, or related discipline.

Proofreading experience and familiarity with standard style guides. Keen eye for detail and appreciation of great copy writing and design.

 

Skills and Abilities:


Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to deal effectively with other TMA employees. Must have four or more years of professional copywriting experience, with solid portfolio of work. Exceptional writing, research, and editing skills. Ability to work independently or with a team to meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability.
