Position Summary
Working directly with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and the President at NorthStar, the Associate Director of Development will implement strategies for acquiring, retaining, upgrading, and stewarding donors to build a robust pipeline of support. This position will be responsible for overseeing and growing the baseline of annual support through multiple campaigns. To that end, the Associate Director is responsible for overseeing and evaluating all aspects of the donor-centric annual fund program including annual corporate sponsorships, fund development, prioritization, and fundraising (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation/negotiation, and stewardship) to ensure that NorthStar can fulfill its mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Development (60%)
- Partner with President and CDO to plan effective discovery, engagement, cultivation, and solicitation strategies that will enhance existing relationships, move donors forward in the pipeline, and discover and build new relationships.
- Manage the Virtuous donor database, including but not limited to: the execution of fundraising campaigns, solicitation and donor stewardship efforts, and ongoing updating of biographical information to ensure fidelity of the data base.
- Manage all donor appreciation and formal gift acknowledgements.
- Support efforts to cultivate and deepen relationships with supporters through personalized outreach and communications.
- Manage a portfolio of 35 - 40 individual, family, and corporate annual fund and leadership-level donor prospects.
- Lead the annual giving campaigns at NorthStar including the True North Fund and Camp NorthStar.
- Coordinate the 42 Club program and in partnership with key staff develop the annual program plan, events calendar, membership recruitment, and other areas as needed.
- Partner with the NorthStar Guild Liaison on the Annual Climb Higher Luncheon Fundraiser.
Communication (40%)
- Manage email newsletters for NorthStar distribution list, writing copy, selecting photos, and gathering quotes and info to tell the story of NorthStar.
- Work with external communication firm(s) to create an annual report, marketing materials, event logos, and collateral
- Oversee NorthStar’s social media strategy and website; continually review content to ensure that info is accurate, and messaging is current and aligned with NorthStar style and brand

Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 3+ years of progressive work experience in nonprofit development or philanthropy, preferably in a small-to-medium-size organization.
- Experience with fundraising and email marketing platforms, ideally Virtuous.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Canva
