Job Summary:

The Large Meter Technician III is responsible to lead the large meter crew in maintaining residential and commercial water meters, valves, and related infrastructure with a focus on large meters. Assist in the training of safety procedures and related job duties. Lead water meter technicians with troubleshooting, maintaining, testing, and monitoring large meters. Aid in large meter inventory management and warranty returns. Utilizes Cityworks and Sensus software to monitor large meter data. Follow safety protocols to support the GHID safety culture. Responsible for assisting the Meter staff in promoting the District's mission through great customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Take the lead for the work of large meter technicians. Assists in developing large meter testing schedules, tracking and procedures for 11/2-inch to 10-inch meters which properly evaluates the age, accuracy, and functionality of metering devices. Troubleshoot large meter malfunctions and maintain meter communications. Verify large meters are programmed correctly. Ensure safety of self, other staff, and public. Communicate with Division Supervisor in providing feedback about staff and projects

2. Utilize District software to evaluate large meter information and control work orders / service requests (Cityworks, Incode, Sensus Analytics and RNI). Keep timely and accurate records of daily inspections, maintenance, and repairs

3. Assist Division Supervisor to evaluate upcoming large meter projects including new meter installations and replumbs. Maintain large meter inventory to accommodate meter installations

4. Train employees in proper use and operation of equipment and tools, including handhelds, to complete large meter tasks; demonstrate the most efficient methods of operation and instructs safety precautions and procedures.

5. Responsible for all scheduled after-hour on-call duties. Must be able to respond to emergencies as needed, including after hours

Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must be able to apply common sense, and conduct analysis as required to solve certain problems.
  2. Must be able to verbally communicate with department staff, with the public and on occasion, business vendors. Must be able to communicate using common verbal skills and writing skills.
  3. Ability to use and teach MXU radio and handheld meter reading components and accurately enter data.
  4. Ability to kneel, climb a ladder and enter and exit underground vaults.
  5. Ability to learn District's geographical area and locate meters by addresses and/or descriptive notes.
  6. Must have ability to operate small equipment and hand tools.
  7. Ability to use hand tools, torch and atmospheric tester.
  8. Ability to operate and use District's two-way radio device.
  9. Must have moderate to advanced skills with general office equipment, computers and computer software.
