FULL TIME Veterinary Assistant opening at Park Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care, located in Durham, NC. We are a progressive full spectrum AHAA accredited small animal hospital seeking a motivated, dedicated, hard-working, assistant to join our team. We pride ourselves in offering a welcoming environment for our team and clients, thereby enabling the highest standard of care for our patients. *We only use our RVT's to perform surgeries and sedations. We do not allow non-licensed person (s) to perform RVT duties per our AAHA Standards.*

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Have a positive and fun time at workPerforms all duties in accordance with government regulations and hospital policies and proceduresSterilize equipment and clean examination tables and roomsRestrain animals during examinations or vaccinationsSoothe upset or frightened animalsAdministers SQ, IM and IV injections.Perform radiographsPhlebotomyIn-house diagnostics including microscopyExcellent customer service skillsClient educationGood communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to be a team player in a fast-paced settingComputer skills; experience with Idexx Cornerstone a plus.Administer medication prescribed by Veterinarians (e.g. by mixing it with food)Observe animal behavior or health condition and report to the VetHelp in cases of emergenciesHandle administrative duties such as scheduling appointments or calling patients in the examination room by priorityKeep accurate records and logsReassure clients that their pets are being cared for and explain issues (e.g. lack of appointments, insurance matters)Advise pet owners on nutrition and healthcareFeed, groom and weigh animalsClean cages and bathe animals skills
Experience in an administrative role is a plusCurrent or former pet ownership is an advantage (not necessary)Excellent customer service skills 3 years is a mustPatient and caring personalityAbility to follow instructions properlyComfortable being around animals (cats, dogs, )Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 40 lbs)Availability to occasionally work in emergenciesJob Type: Full-time
