Job Summary: The Development and Communication Manager plays a key role in advancing the mission of the International High School of New Orleans by managing fundraising efforts and enhancing communication strategies. This position requires a blend of strategic planning, relationship building, and creative communication skills to engage stakeholders and support the school’s goals.


Major Duties and Responsibilities


Fundraising and Development:

  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies to meet annual fundraising goals.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, alumni, parents, and community members.
  • Plan and oversee fundraising events and campaigns, including donor stewardship activities.
  • Manage donor databases and ensure accurate record-keeping.

Communication Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan to enhance the school’s visibility and reputation.
  • Create content for newsletters, press releases, social media, and website updates.
  • Coordinate public relations activities and media relations, including handling inquiries and preparing materials.
  • Monitor and analyze communication metrics to measure effectiveness.

Marketing & Recruitment:

  • Serve as the primary contact with the media.
  • Develop and produce press releases as needed.
  • Responsible for the production of all materials for marketing packets, brochures, direct mail, and promotional materials.
  • Develop, produce, and place media advertising.
  • Assist in identifying, recruiting, training, motivating, and supporting volunteer leadership for all fundraising programs.

Administrative:

  • Creates office systems to oversee all Development projects and operations.
  • Develops and implements donor stewardship programs.
  • Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Develop fundraising training for the Board of Trustees, Ambassadors Council, and Directors for the cultivation of donor prospects.
  • Develops and implements plans for identifying, recruiting, and training volunteers.
  • Coordinates logistics of volunteer activities during fundraising events.
  • Oversees and supervises donor databases and all records, files, and gifting processing/record keeping.
  • Provides ongoing donor and volunteer recognition by preparing accurate acknowledgment letters and other gift-related correspondence.
  • Oversees the development of an annual grants calendar.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Collaborate with school leadership, faculty, and staff to align fundraising and communication efforts with institutional priorities.
  • Work closely with volunteer committees, advisory boards, and parent groups to engage stakeholders in school initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and support to volunteers involved in fundraising activities.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget for development and communication activities.
  • Monitor expenses and ensure activities are within budgetary guidelines.
  • Develops annual budget for the Department of Institutional Development and monitors and authorizes purchases and transfers.
  • Prepares monthly Development report for Head of School
  • Maintains up-to-date fundraising, gifting, and grant compliance for schools and charitable organizations.

Advocacy

  • Acts to influence policies and practices for Fundraising and Development.
  • Collaborates with other schools and organizations to promote the organization.
  • Function as a positive ambassador for IHSNO  in ethnically diverse communities.
  • Presents at affinity groups on behalf of the organization. 

Other

  • Assists in Board of Trustees Development Committee meetings.
  • Attends Board of Trustees monthly meetings.
  • Assumes the responsibility of tasks and special projects as requested by the Head of School.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in managing social media platforms and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Knowledge of educational fundraising trends and best practices.
