NDS Summer Meals Monitor


Job Title: External Compliance Summer Meals Monitor


NDS is seeking new staff to work with the Summer Meals Program. Successful External Compliance Monitors enjoy working with a variety of different people, traveling around the city and suburbs, and are confident in teaching and coaching.


What is Nutritional Development Services?

Nutritional Development Services (NDS) is an agency of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia within the Secretariat for Catholic Human Services. For fifty years, NDS' mission has been to connect community partners that serve children with federally funded Child Nutrition Programs.


What is the Summer Meals Program? The Summer Meals Program offers nutritious meals at no cost when school is out NDS partners with camps, churches, and other organizations in Philadelphia and surrounding counties.


What are the hours & pay rate?

External Monitors visit partner sites Monday through Friday. Weekly schedules are assigned to each monitor based on the number and location of sites operating. The starting pay rate is $17.25 per hour. The 2024 Summer Meals Program will begin on Monday, June 17th and end on Friday, August 23rd. Start dates for monitors will vary and can occur before or after June 17th.


Why are monitors so important?

Monitors are instrumental in making our site partnerships successful and keeping them in compliance with the regulations. Keeping site partnerships in compliance allows the program to continue and most importantly ensures that children in the community are getting healthy food all summer to grow and thrive


What does NDS expect from Summer Monitors?

As an official representative of NDS, responsibilities & duties include the following:

  • Perform site observation visits to ensure sites are complying with all regulatory rules.
  • Provide additional training to site managers when needed.
  • Communicate daily with the NDS main office.
  • Collect reports from sites.
  • Ensure that the program maintains a good public image in the community.

What are the other job requirements?

  • Cell phone, valid driver's license, daily use of a personal car, and insurance
  • Current background clearances
  • Attendance at a site supervisor and monitor training meeting and weekly conference calls.
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be able to climb stairs

Representative Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to relate well to persons of different racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Tech savvy.
  • Attentive to details and able to meet deadlines.
