Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of After School & Auxiliary Programs Ethical Culture Fieldston School, the After School Instructor will have a strong background in coaching various sports and experience working with young students. This role requires a dynamic individual who can foster a love of sports while teaching fundamental skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a supportive and fun environment.

The hiring rate for this position is $85.00 for 90 minutes sessions and $150.00 for 2 hour sessions.

Please note that this is an onsite role and not performed remotely.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the After School Instructor will be:

  • Planning and delivering a diverse range of age-appropriate sports activities, including but not limited to soccer, basketball, baseball, flag football, and more;

  • Teaching basic sports skills, rules, and strategies while emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and respect;

  • Adapting coaching methods to meet the developmental needs of students in different age groups and skill levels;

  • Creating a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel encouraged and motivated;

  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants during activities;

  • Ability to confidently and confidentially address behavioral issues and other challenges that may arise in order to maintain a safe environment;

  • Managing equipment, including setup and cleanup for each session.;

  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize various tasks and stay organized;

  • Communicating regularly with the Director of Afterschool & Auxiliary Programs about student progress and any concerns;

  • Organizing friendly competitions or games to give students opportunities to apply what they have learned in a fun setting;

  • Learning and implementing after school policies and procedures;

  • Performing other projects, duties and tasks as assigned.


Requirements

The successful incumbent will possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or some college level coursework;

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills;

  • Understanding basic needs and characteristics of Pre K-8th grade age children;

  • Prior experience in curriculum planning, instructional techniques and strategies, organization and facilitating;

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills;

  • Patient, energetic, and enthusiastic about working with young children;

  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to the program’s schedule;

  • Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • CPR/First Aid Certifications or the ability to obtain one;

  • Ability to inspire and motivate;

  • Respect and appreciation for diversity in all of its forms;

  • The ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback.
