Position: Herbalist and Product Specialist - Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Department: Botanical Affairs

Schedule: Monday - Friday/20 Hours per week

Location: Hybrid - On-Site/Remote Available

Pay: $28.00 / hr


Summary: This position is a part-time support role, responsible for providing technical and regulatory-compliant information on herbal matters to a variety of customers. These inquiries range from novice herb users to professional practitioners and doctors. The Herbalist and Product Specialist responds to and documents customer complaints in compliance with FDA regulations.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Serves as one of the herbal resource specialists and maintains timely and accurate responses to inquiries regarding a variety of technical questions, ensuring safe and effective use of herbal extracts and mushroom products.
  • Responds to and document customer complaints related to packaging defects, product quality, and adverse event reports.
  • Maintain FDA dietary supplement regulations and ensure proper documentation and procedural protocols.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance by providing technical assistance as needed cross-departmentally.
  • Researches and writes articles for inclusion in newsletters and special seminars to assist with company educational efforts.
  • Assists in the training and development of the Customer Service, Sales, and Marketing teams by updating documentation regularly.
  • Preparing speeches, briefings, and other communications to effectively present to top management, groups of healthcare providers, customers, consumers, and employees.
  • Develop and write articles for publication.
  • Support the Herbal Affairs department and management team with special projects as needed.
  • Provide Spanish-language customer service support as needed and produce articles, blog posts, and other marketing materials in Spanish.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Formal education in Herbalism, Herbal Therapy, Herbal Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy, Mycology, Botany, or related sciences
  • 2 + years within customer service or sales
  • Desired, 3 + years of experience within Herbal liquid extract productions or edible mushroom productions
  • Fluent in Spanish and English (required)

Technical Requirements

  • Good understanding of database management
  • Prior experience in Microsoft suite

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading industry professional publications, establishing personal networks, and keeping abreast of the relevant industry developments.
  • Demonstrated experience within research positions.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills
  • Assist with efficient team operation and continuous process improvement, by participating actively in all team and departmental meetings as requested.
  • Experience with herbal medicinal use and dietary supplement regulations, including Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Ability to travel occasionally to attend conferences, industry meetings and seminars.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, botanical identification guides, government regulations, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and respond appropriately. Spanish bilingual skills are required for this position, with the ability to speak, read, write, and interpret Spanish fluently.


Interpersonal Skills: Ability to quickly organize and communicate thoughts, and to understand communications from others. Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, listen, and respond appropriately.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, weights, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to practical situations including but not limited to extract strength and dosing.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect research data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
