Job Title: Traveling Fiber Characterization Technician 

Type: Full time W2 - Fiber Technician

Location: Traveling role throughout the state of Indiana.

Compensation: $35 - $45 / hr. $100 per day hotel per diem. Truck and tool per diem based on the tools and willingness to use.

**** Must have existing US work authorization, no visa sponsorship ****

Must haves:

  1. Experience working for a telecom or equivalent. There is no training.
  2. Provide your own work truck/van/large SUV

Job Summary

  • Seeking a fully skilled Fiber Tester.
  • Updates work and maintenance logs through company databases.
  • Plans jobs and determines materials and resources needed to complete tasks.
  • Reviews and interprets work orders, wiring lists, wiring diagrams, and equipment drawings and follows standard practices in the performance of job duties.
  • Works varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, weekends and holidays.

General Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Fiber Characterization - capable of reading fiber including:
    • PMD (Polarization Mode Dispersion)
    • CD (Chromatic Dispersion)
    • AP (Attenuation Profile)
    • ORL (Optical Return Loss)
    • Other OTDR functions. This is not an exhaustive list of tests required, but covers the primary tests required. Deliverable to Client is a complete set of Fiber Characterization results that are dictated by the Client at the time of the request. This individual should be proficient in the proper and safe operation of the equipment.
  • Requires a valid state drivers’ license with current satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and hours including possible overtime and night shifts if fiber work is needed during safe time.
  • Travel between Central Office locations
  • Ability to work aloft (e.g. extension ladder).
  • Ability to work in Manholes.
  • Ability to identify and repair fiber optic splices.

Qualifications

  • Experience testing ROADM or IOF Fibers.
  • Experience diagnosing Fiber trouble, and performing routine testing, including measuring and repairing fiber using Fusion Splicer and OTDR
  • Experience working around live fiber.
  • Experience reading Fiber MDF in CO.
  • Experience working independently with little supervision.
