Seeking a skilled Network/Cable Installer with expertise in low-voltage systems, fiber optic cabling, and Cat5/Cat6 wiring installations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network infrastructure, including Wi-Fi equipment and structured cabling. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with knowledge of telecommunications systems and the ability to work in industrial spaces.


Key Responsibilities:

Installation and Termination:

  • Install, terminate, and test low-voltage cabling systems including Cat5, Cat6, and fiber optic cables.
  • Install and configure Wi-Fi access points and other networking equipment.
  • Ensure proper cable management and routing techniques in accordance with industry standards (e.g., BICSI, TIA/EIA).

Network Infrastructure Setup:

  • Set up, configure, and troubleshoot network hardware such as switches, routers, and wireless systems.
  • Install network racks, patch panels, and cable trays to support structured cabling systems.

Testing and Certification:

  • Perform cable testing using appropriate tools to ensure connectivity and signal quality, ensuring cables meet performance standards for bandwidth and latency.
  • Certify fiber optic and copper cabling for operational integrity and adherence to industry specifications.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues related to network cabling, Wi-Fi performance, and hardware failures.
  • Maintain and repair existing network infrastructure, including replacing damaged cables, re-terminating connectors, and testing for signal loss.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Accurately document all installation activities, including cable runs, terminations, and equipment placements.
  • Provide detailed as-built diagrams and reports for installed networks, highlighting any deviations or modifications made during the installation process.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure installations comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Follow proper safety protocols when working with ladders, power tools, and in confined spaces or elevated areas.


Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience with low-voltage, fiber optic, and network cabling installations.
  • Experience installing, terminating, and testing Cat5, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Proficiency in installing and configuring Wi-Fi equipment and related networking hardware.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • BICSI Installer certification or equivalent.
  • Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or similar fiber certification.
  • CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA certification.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of low-voltage cabling systems, fiber optics, and structured cabling principles.
  • Ability to use network testing equipment, cable analyzers, and fiber optic testers.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, floor plans, and technical specifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including commercial and construction sites.


Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites near Richmond, VA.
  • Flexibility to work after hours or weekends as needed for special projects or urgent tasks.
