Job Title: Accounting Specialist

Position Summary:

The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for daily accounting and bookkeeping processes including but not limited to Accounts Payable, journal entries, and reconciliations as well as grant tracking and reporting. The Accounting Specialist is also responsible for making timely electronic payments of rent for clients’ staying in transitional housing provided by TMWF.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1-Grant Accounting and Compliance

Record & maintain grant budget information for all funding sources in TMWF’s general ledger accounting & reporting system

Perform timely reviews of recorded grant allocations of expenditures to those budgeted to ensure funds are utilized in accordance with grant agreements; record general ledger corrections as needed

Record vendor invoices & expenditure receipts in TMWF’s accounting general ledger, including all necessary allocations per grant contract

Provide pertinent grants information to TMWF’s accounting team members, as needed to assist in monthly accounting close activities and ensure accurate accounting for grants Prepare invoices and requests for payments to government funding agencies & other grant funders and reconcile grant expenses to applicable grant funder reports

2-Grant Reporting

Prepare & submit on a timely basis all contractually required grants reports to government agencies and other grant funders, utilizing client services data reports to compile programmatic report information & accounting records for financial report information

Communicate regularly with applicable accounting & program service team members regarding grant reporting deadlines & information needs

Maintain a comprehensive list of reporting requirements for each grant for use in communicating reporting needs to applicable TMWF team members and to facilitate the timely filing of required grant reports

Represent TMWF during periodic grant monitoring reviews performed by funders and during grant-related hearings & workshops

3-Accounting

Ensure that all accounts payable- credit card entries and checks are recorded accurately and allocated to applicable grants in TMWF’s general ledger accounting & reporting system.

Perform a monthly review of all recorded general ledger activities to identify any needed corrections (e.g. to account or class coding’s) and record corrections to the general ledger as needed

Remit electronic rental payments for housing leased by TMWF & provided to its transitional housing clients

Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and credit card statement Other duties as assigned

Qualification:

Bachelor of Business Administration or Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from an accredited college or university

Minimum of 2 years of related work experience

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, QuickBooks experience, Sage Intacct a plus but not required

Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP accounting, nonprofit accounting principles and financial reporting

Knowledge of Grant reporting is a plus but not required. TMWF will provide on-the-job training as required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Works cooperatively & collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, external agencies & other applicable third parties

Ability to manage and prioritize competing deadlines

Detail oriented and organized work skills

Able to sit & work at a computer for extended periods of time

Able to bend, reach, retrieve, & carry files

High ethical standards and integrity
