Function

Supervises, coordinates and directs safe, quality production. Assures a safe working environment for all employees. Provides resources to manufacture products that exceed customers’ quality expectations. Meets production schedules in a cost-effective manner. Coaches, facilitates, problem solves and fosters a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Responsible for safety, security and production issues plant-wide on the shift.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safety.
    • Provides leadership to ensure a work environment that is safe and free from hazards and unsafe behaviors. Assures that safety items are responded to in a timely manner. Assures that general safe work practices and specific safe work instructions are followed within the area of responsibility.
    • Conducts safety audits and actively audits for safe behaviors.
    • Acts as the primary Incident Commander for all plant emergency response situations.
  • Production.
    • Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.
    • Maintains work flow by monitoring all steps of the process; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Quality.
    • Assures that products are manufactured to quality specifications.
    • Assures quality issues are resolved in a timely manner. Utilizes systematic problem solving methods to determine root causes of problems.
  • Development of human resources.
    • Leads efforts to create a culture that is customer-focused, team-based and driven by continuous improvement.
    • Supervises and directs the work of hourly production employees plant-wide on the shift.
    • Develops personal growth opportunities and facilitates on the job training for employees.
    • Sets expectations for safety, quality, production and conduct and monitors.
    • Coaches, counsels and issues correction actions to employees; initiates, coordinates and enforces systems, policies and procedures. Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions and recommending action. Administers Company policies and plant rules fairly and consistently.


Position Specifications

  • Advanced leadership training or education; bachelor’s degree in a relevant area preferred.
  • Three or more years of related operational experience including supervision, leadership, training and motivating employees required. Magnet wire experience preferred. Candidates with less experience will be considered with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area.
  • Willingness to work in a continuous operation and work any shift, including weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health policies and procedures required. Knowledge of behavior based safety preferred.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, systematic problem solving techniques and Six Sigma preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Proficiency with personal computers required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and MFG Pro preferred.
