Purpose of Role

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the HEOP Assistant Director supports the development, coordination, and implementation of academic-based supports to academically underprepared and economically disadvantaged students with diverse talents, strengths, experiences, and needs. The Assistant Director will fully represent the program in the absence of the Director and will utilize various resources to provide adequate tools for students to help them reach their full academic potential. In addition, the Assistant Director will provide direct support to students as they adjust to the college experience, contributing to Daemen retention and degree completion goals. The Assistant Director will also collaborate with various campus resources available to all Daemen University students.


About This Opportunity

Joining our Academic Affairs team, the Assistant Director for the Arthur O. Eve HEOP will be responsible for the following:

  • Assists the Director in recruiting first-year students in strategic demographic areas and serves on HEOP Admission Committee
  • Organizes, implements, and oversees the comprehensive five-week residential TRI Scholars Academy, a summer bridge program for entering first-year students
  • Counsels caseload of participants, including first and second-year students, weekly throughout the academic year, closely monitoring their academic progress
  • Works closely with the AVP of Student Success and Director of Academic Support and Engagement to assess support needs and deliver academic services tailored to the program's initiatives
  • Maintains cross-campus partnerships and collaborations concerning HEOP students' academic progress and community engagement
  • Manages the program's recruitment process and represents the program at institutional and external recruiting events
  • Assists the Director in gathering assessment data and preparing required reports for both the New York State Education Department and Daemen College
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience with the creation and facilitation of student-oriented programming
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Comfort with technology and experience with Microsoft Office and Google suites
  • Valid NYS Driver's License
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, particularly during the five-week TRI Scholars Academy during July and August
  • Ability to travel overnight

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, Counseling, Social Work, or related degree
  • Recruiting and counseling of educationally underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students
  • Ability to work with Canva and social media platforms
  • Financial aid counseling experience
  • Crisis management and problem-solving

Total Compensation

Daemen University offers a robust total compensation package that includes:

  • Health insurance with an option of two plans: an HSA plan with the deductible funded by employer HSA contributions, or a copay plan.
