Mesa seeks a Project Manager to lead our Power Delivery-Transmission, Civil/Structural Group (PDT-STR) for our Northeast Region.

ROLE SUMMARY
The Project Manager position is an experienced-level management position responsible for all projects for one large or multiple smaller clients. The Project Manager is responsible for creating the project bid and proposal or the Project Execution Plan (PEP), which includes the complete interpretation and understanding of the project scope, schedule, and budget. The Project Manager is also responsible for the technical and financial performance of all projects under their control, all project communications to internal and external stakeholders, and the efficient utilization of resources to exceed the client's requirements. This position works under the direction of a director or program manager. This position requires leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills, outstanding communication skills, strong accounting skills, flexibility in managing complex processes, and strong team-building skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Project Manager is responsible for:

  • Provides leadership for all technical and financial aspects of a project, including scope, schedule, budget, project communications, and securing competent resources for successful project execution. Establishes work assignments and reviews project performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Leads assigned project team, ensuring project goals and objectives are achieved and all business processes and applicable procedures are followed. Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work for projects and is responsible for the project's technical direction, including the approval of project deliverables.
  • Monitor and track project expenditures, earned value, cost, and schedule performance as necessary to satisfy corporate requirements and ensure satisfactory budget performance on all projects.
  • Communicates effectively with each client regularly; this includes keeping clients informed of issues that could adversely affect project execution or impact scope, schedule, or budget performance.
  • Proactively communicates and promotes Mesa's capabilities and strengths to their assigned customers. In interfacing with potential or existing clients, listens for and seeks out new project opportunities that solve and add value to the needs of the client.
  • Ensures projects are closed out and archived promptly, following applicable procedures.
  • Promotes and leads a strong safety culture within the team and ensures staff incorporates safe work practices into all activities and designs.

ACCOUNTABILITY
The Project Manager is accountable for:

  • Prepares bids and proposals for projects, including the development of the project cost and schedule.
  • Keeping the project status current and reporting on the actions and changes needed on assigned projects so the overall organization can respond to client requests.
  • Appropriate budgeting and pricing utilizing resources and cost controls to maximize the profit margin on individual projects.
  • Train, coach, and mentor team for maximum performance. Perform performance evaluations and administer corrective action as necessary.
  • Maintains client relations for current projects and future work opportunities.

AUTHORITY
The Project Manager has the authority to:

  • Work with the project team to avoid or eliminate schedule changes and budget variances resulting from project changes.
  • Meets regularly with key customer contacts to discuss current and future projects, evaluate Mesa's performance, and identify other business opportunities with current clients.
  • Make technical or financial decisions affecting the project direction or execution to meet or exceed client requirements.

The Project Manager must have the following competencies:

  • Ability to perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to coordinate with and interface with clients, vendors, engineers, colleagues, and other electric utility personnel.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve difficult technical and management problems related to engineering projects; facilitate change management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to develop, promote, and comply with Mesa safety requirements.
  • Follows through on own commitments as well as team commitments. Leads by example.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Proactive and stays on top of every aspect of the job and project.
  • Excellent organizational skills and manages multiple priorities well.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible transmission engineering experience is required, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Professional Engineer license required.
  • Project Management Professional certification preferred.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Traveling, as required, to meet all project requirements and deliverables.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS

  • Normal office environment. Position may require extended hours with occasional local and out-of-town travel.
