Position Description:

SLP seeks a candidate who maintains a harmonious balance between the obligations to individuals and the broader company objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of compliance requirements in the State of CA. The HR Generalist is responsible for performing and overseeing all HR compliance duties and works closely with the COO. This position is responsible for developing our compliance materials and training for Managers and Supervisors, and supporting our culture of employee ownership.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop our training program for all compliance activities
  • Support the best parts of SLP’s culture, including worker ownership, work-life balance, creative and democratic problem solving, and fun events.
  • Work with the COO to interpret and explain human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations; maintain current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Perform administration of various HR policies and procedures for the company’s Team Members
  • Maintain and update the Team Member handbook
  • Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Participate in developing HR department goals, objectives and systems
  • Monitor the team member performance evaluation program and revise as necessary
  • Support of managers with Team Member relations issues (grievance or complaints)
  • Harassment and workers compensation claim investigations
  • Full cycle recruitment for all exempt and nonexempt Team Members, students and temporary employees; conduct onboarding process; monitor career-path program
  • Team Member document filing system
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Experience as an H.R. Specialist or Generalist, preferably 2 or more years
  • Ability to be a responsible, self-motivated and innovative HR professional
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and organization skills.
  • Benefits administration experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced training preferred
  • HR experience within the construction industry strongly preferred
  • Familiar with Cal/OSHA Standards preferred
  • Worker Owner or ESOP experience preferred
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices in California
  • Detail oriented, proactive, creative and good at planning special events
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and Google suite.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 50 wpm
