Student Vocational Coach - Essential PIECE Enterprises Transition Program


Position Description: 

The Student Vocational Coach will provide one-on-one, individualized support to AZACS students participating in student internship roles in the Essential Piece Enterprises Transition Program (PIECE). The coordinator must be a self-starter with strong written and oral communication skills who is comfortable working directly with students, teachers, and school leaders to integrate student experiences and support within the campus community.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and formalize student vocational duties within the internship program to support the assigned campus
  • Engage in one-on-one contact with students on campus to support daily and weekly vocational duties
  • Provide one-on-one individualized support to the students to assist them in the development of vocational/employment skills (resume writing, job interviews, application completion, etc.). 
  • Work closely with the Director of Transition Services and staff to help them understand the value of support the AZACS student internships provide.
  • Collect data regarding student performance.
  • Assisting students to discover and overcome their personal barriers and set goals
  • Developing effective job coaching and employment plans
  • Communicating with students to understand their goals and ambitions
  • Train students on interpersonal skills
  • Serve to support behaviors on a day-to-day basis in the community as well as on campus


Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities 
  • Completion of or currently enrolled in a program for Education OR Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or currently enrolled in a program preferred
  • Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
  • Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
  • Ability to communicate with parents, co-workers and  professional contacts in a courteous and professional manner and following AZACS guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in structured teaching, center-based model preferred
  • Valid Arizona fingerprint clearance card


Required:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and comply with random drug testing requirements due to driving responsibilities for the AZACS van.
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card with no driving restrictions
  • Substitute Certification or willingness to attain
  • Experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class require:  stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.


Light Work:  

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 


Working Conditions:  

Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
