Under the general supervision of the Director of Grants and Community Engagement, the Zero Suicide Prevention Manager creates a comprehensive model of suicide prevention with the goal of having zero suicides among those in their care.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides clinical and operational support and coordinates all activities for the Zero Suicide Project at DWIHN.
  • Completes all reporting requirements as designated by the funder and designated organization.
  • Handles all administrative responsibilities.
  • Plans, implements, and coordinates all activities of the grant program.
  • Maintains and updates data for the Electronic Medical Records system.
  • Collaborates with internal and external agencies to develop and schedule activities and meet project goals.
  • Provides guidance to behavioral health systems looking to change the way they treat individuals who are at-risk for suicide.
  • Leads system-wide cultural change committed to reducing suicides.
  • Identifies individuals with suicide risk via a comprehensive screening and assessment.
  • Establishes measurements for suicide deaths.
  • Determines other outcome measurements that will be collected and reviewed (e.g.,suicide attempts).
  • Establishes process outcome measurements (e.g., screenings, assessments, safety plans completed).
  • Engages all individuals at-risk of suicide using a suicide care management plan.
  • Treats suicidal thoughts and behaviors using evidence-based treatments.
  • Refers individuals to appropriate levels of care.
  • Transitions individuals through care with warm hand-offs and supportive contacts.
  • Assists in the assessment and management of the Project.
  • Coordinates conferences, trainings, and seminars
  • Updates database as needed and assists in the preparation of required reports.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Works closely with the Project Director and Chief Medical Officer.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA’S):

  • Knowledge of DWIHN policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of the DWIHN provider network and community resources.
  • Knowledge of the Michigan Mental Health Code.
  • Knowledge of MDHHS policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health and mental health principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the Zero Suicide Prevention Model and Initiative.
  • Knowledge of the Michigan Medicaid Provider Manual.
  • Knowledge of the clinical care process (screening, assessment, treatment planning, case management and continuing care).
  • Knowledge of and ability to use screening and assessment tools for behavioral health services.
  • Knowledge of Mobile Crisis Operations.
  • Knowledge of Evidence Based Practices for the behavioral health field.
  • Knowledge of crisis training and experience in de-escalation, i.e., suicide prevention, development of crisis plans, trauma informed care, etc.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Public Health, Nursing (a Bachelor’s Degree will be accepted), the Human Services, the Social Services, or a related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years of professional clinical experience in a behavioral healthcare or a community mental health setting.

AND

One (1) year of full-time paid experience in one of the following areas: crisis services, trauma informed care or suicide prevention.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience with SAMHSA grants with knowledge of required reporting and data requirements.
  • Experience with project management, including planning and implementing project activities.

REQUIRED LICENSE(S):

A Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure: RN, LMSW, LMHC, LPC, LLP or PhD.

(A limited license will be accepted).

A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is usually performed in an office setting but requires the employee to drive to different sites throughout Wayne County and the State of Michigan. This position can work remotely with supervisory approval.

The incumbent in this position will be required to attend in-person events on a weekly basis.
