Position Title:  Academic Specialist

Reports to:  Academic Development Coordinator

Job Type/ Classification:  Part-time/Non-exempt

Salary:  $20hr non-certified, $25hr certified

Hours: Monday-Thursday 3:45pm-5:45pm and recurring 1 hour monthly meeting with Academic Development Coordinator (summer hours may differ) 

Location: Dream Center Evansville 


Position Summary:

The Academic Specialist will join our Academic Development team to help provide academic support to our students. The ideal candidate will ensure that students make significant growth in meeting or exceeding grade-level standards and expectations for reading and mathematics. Specialists must be able to motivate and maintain the students' interest while setting a positive example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance, and professionalism. 


Responsibilities 

  • Implement reading and math interventions in one-on-one or small group settings with students K-6 who need additional academic support.
  • Meet monthly with Academic Development Coordinator to share student progress and growth.
  • Document student supports that are implemented. 
  • Periodically administer assessments and progress monitoring with students to formally track student achievement. 


Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience with children and managing a classroom setting 
  • Models behavior that is consistent with Christ’s teaching
  • Has a personal saving relationship with Jesus Christ 
  • Proven ability to work in a fast pace environment 
  • Can multitask effectively 
  • Passionate about changing the lives of students in the Jacobsville community
  • Demonstrates strong relationship building skills with children and adults


Conditions of Employment

  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Criminal background check must show no conviction of a felony or misdemeanor crime including, but not limited to abuse, drugs or alcohol, neglect, theft or fraud.


Education Requirements

  • BA/BS in Education, or equivalent experience with youth is strongly preferred, but not required.


Candidates are not suitable for this position if they:

  • Have been involved in a crime against a vulnerable person (child, disabled person, elderly, etc.)
  • Cannot commit to Monday-Thursday 3:45pm-5:45pm plus a recurring 1-hour monthly meeting
