JOB SUMMARY: The Wellness Coordinator is responsible for intervention, advocacy, support, and prevention programs that provide referrals, follow-up service, monitoring, and other supportive measures to students to maximize student success. This position serves as an integral part of the University's Health and Wellness Team, composed of staff from the University's Student Counseling Center, Student Health Center, and Student Accessibility Services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, implements and evaluates holistic educational outreach projects related to student wellness and success, with emphasis on issues such as the prevention of sexual assault, alcohol and other drug abuse, mental health promotion, nutrition, fitness, sexual health, healthy relationships, stress management, financial literacy, sleep, and resilience.
  • Creates and delivers programs and training on wellness programs to include sexual misconduct education, for incoming students, to include Graduate and Law students, and participates in student orientation and programs. Creates web-based education and provides support to other education and awareness events on campus
  • Coordinates support services with campus and community partners (including internal partners of: Residence Life, University, Human Resources (Title IX, Clery), and other appropriate community partners including: local hospitals, local law enforcement and other Universities.
  • Creates and coordinates targeted outreach, education, and support to diverse populations and groups that are historically marginalized, including international students, LGBTQ+ students, students of color, and students with disabilities. Works with communications to coordinate on marketing material and events.
  • Collaborates with University student clubs and organizations, and campus student staff on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking programming. Manages and implements technology and web-based programs, services and communication/marketing strategies.
  • Seeks external grant funding for health and wellness in consultation with executive director, implements programming in collaboration with other university partners for state and federal grants.
  • Assist survivors in ways that are culturally competent and sensitive to race, gender, culture, religion, ability, and sexual orientation; supports and trains students on appropriate and culturally competent responses to sexual misconduct.
  • Advises student peer health educators and oversees the development, implementation, and assessment of student driven wellness programs (e.g. Peer Health Education Program, Student Advocate Program, Bystander Intervention Program)
  • Oversees and manages the Rattler Den Food and Hygiene Pantry, which serves students experiencing food insecurity and/or hygiene insecurity. This includes oversight of student staff, inventory, and donation efforts and reporting.
  • Provides wellness consultations to students as needed and serves as a health/wellness resource to the campus community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, health, social sciences or related field; Master's Degree in Public Health, Counseling, Social Work preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience; experience with students in a secondary and/or post secondary educational setting or young adults in other mental health settings preferred; Experience working with college age populations and students identifying as Hispanic or Latinx strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual strongly preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals)
  • Certification or professional development training in substance abuse prevention or counseling preferred.
  • Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on University programs and events.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; an ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; displays solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Must have strong self-judgment abilities to assist in the preparation of department personnel policy information. Use discretion to complete work assignments. Initiative is frequently required to complete work assignments. Decisions are made regarding policy interpretation and individual work priorities
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate a capacity for leadership, and the commitment to work collaboratively with a diverse and dynamic community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion and desire to work with diverse populations;
  • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion or prevention programs and experience supervising others preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
