REPORTS TO: Director of Property Operations and Maintenance

Southall Farm & Inn is a premier destination rooted in sustainability; From reducing food waste with our state-of-the-art recycling and composting facility to planning nitrogen-fixing cover crops that preserve the soil and reduce the need for fertilizer. We utilize smart technology in rooms and geothermal systems that conserve energy. The signs of thoughtful conservation and stewardship are everywhere. Sustainability, one of our guiding principles, is reflected in everything we do, because the health of the land fuels all that we do.

The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor will oversee all services related to the health of our land; Solid Waste Management, Recycling, Firewood Distribution, and Firepit Maintenance all while assisting with specific event set up needs. As a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, you will function in a leadership role responsible for department / shift briefings and communications, scheduling, training, reporting, and candidate screening. Work shifts may include evenings and weekends, as we are a hotel property, and your flexibility is needed; In addition, this role spends a significant amount of time outdoors on our property.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises activities of grounds team members; including selection, training, communications, and performance.
  • Supervises and performs quality control inspections of the property for cleanliness and safety.
  • Greet, welcome, and interact with guests in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Oversees and performs the collection and proper disposal of solid waste and recycling throughout the property multiple times a day.
  • Works with vendors and suppliers of goods and services needed to support the grounds maintenance and recycling processes on the property.
  • Oversees the receiving and distribution of Firewood for Firepits, stoves and fireplaces throughout property.
  • Ensure the daily cleaning of firepits throughout property.
  • Provides assistance with the transportation of firepits and other large items being distributed or received on property.
  • Ensure grounds areas are clean and neat
  • Provide general resort information for guests
  • Interact with resort staff in a professional manner including maintaining a professional demeanor and attitude
  • Communicate all major repairs around property to the appropriate business partner or supervisor.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Skills and Experience:

  • Hospitality experience strongly preferred
  • Forklift Operation Experience – Certification Preferred
  • Previous custodial or outdoor grounds and pool maintenance experience is strongly preferred. Having a " keen eye for detail" is needed.
  • Valid Driver’s License with no major infractions and experience operating large vehicles.
  • Knowledge of Forklift Maintenance, Cardboard Bailers, Compactors and carts (electric and gas).
  • Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted
  • Ability to use computer technology, specifically in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook email).
  • Demonstrated command of ticketing systems (HotSOS, Alice)
  • Knowledge of sustainable cleaning chemicals and processes
  • Basic electrical skills
  • Exterior painting experience
  • Use of basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization in writing and in person
  • Light landscape experience in professional setting
  • Ability to go into a space with a critical eye with the willingness and knowledge to fix the imperfections.
  • Self-motivated
  • Follows written and verbal instructions well
  • Works well independently as well as with a team
  • Basic plumbing / irrigation knowledge is a plus

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
