Title: Certified Surgical Technician (Per Diem)

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Certified Surgical Technician (CST) to join our growing per diem pool. In this critical role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures by assisting surgeons and nurses in the operating room (OR). You will be responsible for preparing the OR, maintaining a sterile field throughout the surgery, and assisting the surgical team with their needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-operative duties:
    • Gather, check, and prepare surgical supplies and equipment based on the scheduled procedure.
    • Participate in sterile scrubbing and donning sterile gowns and gloves.
    • Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, and medications as needed.
    • Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator.
    • Assist the surgical team with sterile gowning and gloving.
    • Assist with draping the patient and establishing a sterile field.
    • Participate in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure.
  • Intraoperative duties:
    • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and promptly pass instruments and supplies during the procedure.
    • Measure and prepare medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions.
    • Hold retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.
    • Assist with suctioning and sponging the operative site.
    • Apply electrocautery and cut suture materials as instructed.
    • Maintain accurate instrument and sponge counts throughout the surgery.
    • Assist with transferring patients to and from the OR bed.
  • Post-operative duties (as needed):
    • Clean and restock the OR for the next procedure (may be completed by dedicated staff).
    • Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures and supplies (may be completed by dedicated staff).

Qualifications:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential, current and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a surgical setting (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of sterile technique and aseptic principles.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver moderate equipment (up to 35 lbs).
