Company Info

Delta Star provides power solutions for utilities across North America. This includes the manufacturing of medium-power transformers, mobile transformers, mobile electrical substations, trailers, and unitized substations. We offer power transformers for utility applications including power and distribution, transmission voltages, system ties, and automatic voltage regulations, as well as industrial applications. Delta Star also provides comprehensive engineering, testing, maintenance services, and parts for any transformer manufacturer through our Field Service business unit, ensuring our customer's transformers and mobiles maintain peak performance.

Purpose

The Test Support Specialist will be responsible for analyzing test data submitted by field service technicians. This position will be responsible for formatting data and generating the field service report for submission to the customer. The specialist will assist with technical questions from customers as well as support field technicians with testing and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide technical support and analyze all data sent in for review by field service technicians
  • Assist technicians in troubleshooting when test results are unacceptable
  • Consult with DSI and Client Services on questionable results when needed
  • Prepare work scopes & test files for projects utilizing customer specifications & drawings
  • Gather all needed factory acceptance test files for comparison prior to project starting
  • File all incoming data into the designated job folders after reviewing
  • After reviewing convert DTA files into Excel. Format and merge with technician's files for field service reports.
  • After reviewing convert SFRA & CT's into PDF for field service reports
  • Review oil test reports from the lab & verify the data is within IEEE limits
  • Using the data from the field, generate field service reports for customers.
  • Assist operations department with project planning
  • Purchase supplies for projects (when needed).
  • Assist with equipment & oil processor maintenance.
  • Review DGA of oil samples.
  • Assist with test equipment calibration
  • Maintain stock of supplies (oil sample kits, daily items needed by technicians)

Education & Experience

  • Associate in Engineering or a combination of experience that demonstrates thorough understanding of transformer testing
  • Minimum 5-10 years of transformer & electrical controls testing.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of breakers.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of transformer assembly.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of working in substations preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understands the electrical hazards that are present in substations and testing environments.
  • Understands acceptable limits of test data.
  • Familiar with test software (DTA, SFRA & Omicron).
  • Able to troubleshoot test set up and testing related issues.
  • Capable of reading schematics, blueprints & drawings.
  • General knowledge of LTC mechanics.
  • General knowledge of transformer function & protection devices
  • Understands oil processor functions.
  • Understands transformer assembly & vacuum oil filling process.
  • Capable of reviewing customer specifications & quotes to determine work scopes.
  • Familiar with using Microsoft Word, Excel, Nitro / Adobe.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to assist others.

Travel Requirements

  • Preferred work location is at Delta Star's Field Service headquarters located in Forest, VA
