SUMMARY

Responsible for the preproduction process and sourcing, initial supplier contact, and negotiation for procurement of goods and services required for products and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Own pre-production process while collaborating with other internal customers whose goal is to manage a new design or design change from initial concept to production.
    1. Learn the duties of and backup the master planner.
  • Understand all market aspects of assigned products/suppliers and be recognized as a global industry expert within Dedicated Computing. Responsible for driving the adoption of commodity and supply chain strategies into product pre-production and manufacturing objectives.
    1. Develop cost models and understand cost drivers.
    2. Be the recognized expert for global market information.
      • Long-term supply/demand/capacity, price, market segments, and global/domestic market dynamics.
      • Short-term and long-term market trends.
  • Through strong technical/market expertise, lead the development and execution of long-term supply chain strategies that deliver a competitive advantage to the business. Strategies must include:
    1. Demonstrate an understanding of the supply base as it maps to Dedicated Computing demand over the next 3+ years.
    2. Identify gaps in Dedicated Computing direction vs. industry and provide recommendations to address gaps.
    3. Include contingency plans and risk analysis.
    4. Develop sourcing plans reflective of portfolio management: long term agreements, strategic sourcing relationships, etc.
    5. Identify opportunities for product standardization, develop business cases, and drive strategies cross-functionally throughout the business.
  • Develop global and comprehensive supplier/buyer contractual relationships. Develop negotiation strategies and drive negotiations to achieve stated goals and objectives.
    1. Develop and document negotiation and contracting process consistent with commodity strategy.
    2. Own communication for contract data and volumes across functional teams within Dedicated Computing and supply base, as appropriate.
    3. Leverage supplier capabilities and business opportunities on a domestic and international basis.
  • Own the overall initial and long-term supplier relationship. With technology partners, and in accordance with the commodity strategy, drive supplier selection, development, and overall supplier management and marketing.
    1. Develop specific performance criteria and award/remove business in accordance with results.
    2. Work with suppliers to drive improvement on all areas measured within the supplier scorecard.
    3. Drive supply chain consolidation analysis, planning, and implementation.
    • Generate material cost productivity improvements in assigned purchase areas to meet quarterly targets.
  1. Work with Sales/Product Management to improve forecast accuracy to suppliers.
  2. Maximize supplier value through understanding of their strategy and marketing efforts, and incorporate information into new product designs.
  3. Train and educate account executives and product management teams in supplier marketing and strategy to drive sales with customers.
  • As a function of the above, drive improvement in key quantitative objectives: material availability, material cost, inventory turns, and excess and obsolete or end-of-life (EOL) inventory.
  • Proactively share best practices across sourcing and lead cross-team efforts to leverage applicable strategies and processes.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels, either internally or within supplier organizations.
  • Cross-functional project management, data analysis and problem solving, team leadership, and the ability to work independently at a high energy level.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of international business transactions, i.e., tariff codes, Incoterms, export license requirements, and intermodal transportation.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, and budgeting.
  • Sourcing experience in electronics components.
