Nature and Background of Position:

Students 2 Science, Inc is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to Inspire, Motivate and Educate students in grades 5-12 to pursue careers in STEM. S2S accomplishes this through its two signature programs. The ISAAC Program (Improving Student Affinity and Aptitude for Careers in STEM) provides students with authentic and rigorous STEM work experience in our state-of-the-art commercial laboratory. The V-Lab Program (Virtual Laboratory) conducts laboratory instructional sessions in the classroom via a collaborative communication platform. The program includes science kits, detailed lessons and lesson plans with how-to videos, all aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. We are looking for scientists to serve as full-time instructors for these two programs.

Principal Activities and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary instructor in the ISAAC In Person Laboratory Program
  • Assist or Fill-in V-Lab instructor as needed
  • Lead and execute hands-on laboratory exercises for students from 5th-12th grade.
  • Manage and prepare activities in all areas of the S2S STEM curriculum including assisting in managing laboratory stations and equipment needs in both ISAAC and V-Lab programs.
  • Prepare content and practice delivery in all areas of the S2S STEM curriculum.
  • Responsible for facilitating and assisting ISAAC and V-Lab Program Directors/Managers with the implementation of all S2S STEM activities, including instructing students, training volunteers & assistants, mentoring interns, and other duties as needed.
  • Work closely with the ISAAC and V-Lab Program Director/Manager to develop, monitor, and implement STEM activities including new experiments, instructor and student guides, and lesson plans in alignment with common core and New Jersey Science standards.
  • Actively engage in the development and implementation of novel STEM curriculum ideas.
  • Update supporting documents to maintain consistency with changes to program.
  • Mentor and assist with training new instructors, interns, and volunteers while maintaining quality programming and positive relationships.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining a document control system for the storage and integrity of all external-facing documentation for STEM programs.
  • Work as part of an energetic engaged team dedicated to bringing STEM experiences to students.
  • Attend training on curricula, laboratory instrumentation, safety procedures, and corporate policies.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary to support the organization.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with key principles in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
  • Detail oriented; perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency
  • Positive and happy demeanor- ability to work well with others including students
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is desirable
  • Commitment to STEM Education
  • Highly organized
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision
  • Ability to translate complex technical information to students in a meaningful and engaging manner

Education: Desired: Master’s Degree or Equivalent in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics field.

Work Experience: Industrial or academic laboratory experience or similar. Teaching or mentoring experience is a bonus.

Physical Requirements: A significant amount of time is spent sitting and standing. Lifting and carrying boxes and equipment up to 40lbs is also required.

Other Requirements: Must be able to read, write, and understand English. Good auditory and visual skills are required. Experience with Microsoft Office tools is required.
