Performs the more routine, fundamental, and supportive technical engineering activities involved in the survey, design, and construction of roads in Kent County. This is the entry-level position for engineering technicians at KCRC. Employees in this classification exercise some independent judgement and decision-making.

You will be responsible for conducting various tests on materials to assess their physical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Your primary duties will include preparing specimens, performing tests using specialized equipment, recording and analyzing data, and generating comprehensive reports.

This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and proficiency in operating laboratory instruments.


Requirements

Education/Experience: high school diploma or equivalent; with special or technical training; associate in civil technology, drafting, surveying, or engineering preferred. Although an entry-level classification, experience in surveying, construction inspection is expected.

Knowledge/Skills: clear verbal and written communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills. General computer literacy including Microsoft Office, CAD, and an aptitude for learning new software.

Physical: moderate walking, climbing, sitting, and traveling in a car. Requires working in all types of weather, traffic conditions, and various terrains.

Other Requirements: certification for inspection of HMA, road testing concretes and aggregate, MDOT HMA QA/QC Sampling and testing certification for MDEQ soil erosion and sedimentation control part 91; A valid Michigan Driver's License.
