The College of St. Scholastica

The College of St. Scholastica seeks candidates interested in serving as the Vice President of Advancement. The College seeks a highly skilled and exceptional leader to lead the philanthropic strategy in support of the College’s Benedictine Catholic mission. The Vice President of Advancement joins a strong senior leadership team that makes up the President’s Cabinet.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Advancement advises the President on all matters pertaining to the management and operation of the College’s development, alumni relations, as well as community and donor relations. As the College’s senior development officer, this position is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the College’s total financial development program. This includes all annual giving programs, major gift efforts, planned giving, special fund-raising activities, foundation and government grants, and capital campaign responsibilities. In addition, the vice president is responsible for all alumni relations functions, and oversees research, prospect management, donor services, and gift accounting, as well as the grants division of the College. The Vice President works closely with the Cabinet Members, Deans and other leaders and is a member of the President’s staff.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree is preferred, with a strong track record of progressive experience in development and fundraising.
  • Documented evidence of strategic planning and leadership skills, as well as the ability to supervise and manage staff and oversee budgets is required.
  • Demonstrated and proven skill in prospect identification, cultivation, and the successful solicitation of major gifts is expected.
  • An understanding of deferred giving opportunities
  • Success in the recruitment and management of volunteers, and experience working collaboratively with campus constituents on alumni and fundraising issues
  • Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to the promotion of diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to facilitate an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • A commitment to the Benedictine Values and the CSS Mission

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in related field

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads the design and implementation of a strategic development and fundraising strategy that advances the mission of the organization.
  • Contributes to the College’s strategic planning and annual reporting for the organization.
  • Contributes meaningfully to the establishment of the Advancement Office’s annual goals and the monitoring of progress towards stated goals.
  • Oversees third-party contractors in the execution of the organization’s philanthropic work
  • Develops new opportunities for revenue, donor cultivation and philanthropic support by engaging with key external alliances.
  • Serves as a key representative of the organization in the community, serving as an ambassador for the mission, liaison with donors, and communicator of our core messages, programs and services.
  • Conducts regular analysis of donors’ giving to monitor and assess vitality and health of the organization’s budget; prepares regular giving reports.
  • Builds and fosters relationships among corporations and the philanthropic community to help achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Interfaces with the organization’s Board of Trustees and is staff liaison to the BOT Advancement Committee and Trustee Committee
  • Participates as a team member of the President’s Cabinet
  • Represents the organization in public meetings and presentations to the community.
  • Hires, onboards, trains and guides direct reports for the entire advancement team toward accountable, goal oriented outcomes.
  • Leads the Advancement Team strategic plan and monitors success
  • Grows, stewards and develops a portfolio of strategic partnerships with leading businesses and nonprofits/foundations aligned with the organization’s mission.
