We also provide site remediation and environmental consulting services to ensure that our clients meet regulatory standards. With a focus on safety, efficiency, and environmental protection, Island Pump & Tank serves a variety of clients, including gas stations, commercial fuel facilities, and other businesses that require petroleum handling and storage solutions.

Job Summary: The Estimator is responsible for assessing the cost of construction projects, collaborating with contractors to evaluate risks, estimate timelines, and prepare cost sheets with items and detailed costs by manufacturers. This role requires strong communication skills to work with customers, develop tailored project scopes, and deliver accurate cost estimates. A significant portion of the Estimator's responsibilities involves sales activities, making it essential to engage with clients beyond just pricing and data analysis.

What You’ll Do:

  • Estimate the cost of new and proposed products and services in the assigned departments, areas, or projects.
  • Analyze changes to the products and services provided.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and other bid documents, and communicate with the Owner's Representative or General Contractor regarding questions or clarifications.
  • Travel to worksites to conduct thorough evaluations and assessments of project requirements, ensuring accurate cost estimation.
  • Communicate with customers to develop an intended work scope for each project and provide a cost estimate based on that scope.
  • Engage in sales activities, presenting cost estimates and project proposals to potential clients.
  • Provide detailed reports including breakdowns of project costs and forecasts of remaining costs.
  • Document data and statistical procedures used in conducting cost analysis.
  • Determine the best sources for soliciting quotes for specified equipment.
  • Ensure cost-effective manufacturers for each specified item to complete bid and allot costs appropriately.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

  • Ability to read blueprints, scale drawings, and architectural plans and interpret all data to estimate the cost.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures.
  • Proficient with accounting software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong sales skills, with the ability to engage and persuade clients.
  • Some college preferred but on-the-job experience is acceptable.
  • Capable of lifting up to 15 pounds at times.
