Klamath County Library Assistant III Youth Services (P/T) – Job Description
Salary: $15.63-$17.06

General Position Summary
Performs full scope of clerical and para-professional responsibilities in the operation of Youth Services department and a Branch Library.

Essential Functions
The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
Recruits, trains, assigns and reviews the work of volunteers, which includes establishing work schedules and instruction of day-to-day duties.
Serves as lead worker for Youth Services and Reference Departments
Keeps abreast of library policies and procedures, professional literature and reviews; makes suggestions and passes on public input to supervisor.
Suggests procedural and program changes for the Youth Services department through participation in workshops and direct consultation with other Library Assistants.
Implements new and continuing programs for the Youth Services department, e.g. preschool story time activities and the Summer Reading Program.
Directly assists patrons in a courteous and friendly manner while helping them locate materials, access information or use library computers and library materials online; assists impaired patrons by locating material suitable for their needs.
Uses online catalog and software programs to access library’s print and digital materials or information. Answers questions or refers patrons (either by phone or in person) to appropriate material either in-print or online, as well as to various agencies for assistance with specific queries.
Assists patrons in utilizing various library technology, including computer catalogs, database programs and library equipment such as computers, printers, photocopiers and electronic book readers and players.
Consults with supervisor for the purpose of control and arrangements of library materials and equipment in the main library.
Assists Department Supervisor in selecting new and replacement materials and assigning status of materials in acquisitions/cataloging systems; assists with de-acquisition of outdated library materials.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Library Supervisory team.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education, Certification, & Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 6 months related experience and/or training Library experience preferred.
Valid Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Polaris Database software; Internet browser software and Microsoft Office suite.
