Position Summary: Klamath County is seeking a dedicated Technical Services Clerk to join the Library's Technical Services Department. The ideal candidate will perform a full range of clerical and para-professional responsibilities, ensuring the smooth operation of the department and contributing to the overall success of the library.

Essential Functions:

  • Train, assign, and review the work of volunteers in the Technical Services Department.
  • Process new materials and mend damaged library materials.
  • Produce labels for new library materials using Polaris software.
  • Consult with supervisors for the control and arrangement of library materials, utilizing automated systems to assign location identifiers and enter bibliographic records.
  • Search OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) for copy cataloging.
  • Assess the suitability of materials for re-shelving, notify supervisors of any issues, and determine responsibility for damaged materials.
  • Assist in maintaining statistics for Technical Services using report software.
  • Implement procedural and program changes through workshops and direct consultation with supervisors.
  • Stay informed of library policies, procedures, and para-professional literature, and provide suggestions and public feedback to supervisors.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • Associate's degree (AA) with one year of library experience, or GED with three years of library experience.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
    • Valid Driver's License required.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups.
    • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret data using bar graphs.
    • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions and solve problems with concrete variables.
    • Computer Skills: Knowledge of Polaris, OCLC Database, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Springbrook Payroll systems, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, sit, use hands, stand, reach, talk, and hear regularly.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
