Key Responsibilities
  • Training and Supervision: Train, assign, and review the work of volunteers in the Technical Services Department to ensure they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.
  • Material Processing: Process new materials and mend damaged library materials to maintain the quality and integrity of the collection.
  • Label Production: Produce labels for new library materials using Polaris software to ensure accurate and efficient cataloging.
  • Collection Management: Consult with supervisors to control and arrange library materials, utilizing automated systems to assign location identifiers and enter bibliographic records.
  • Research and Cataloging: Search OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) for copy cataloging to ensure accurate and up-to-date cataloging of library materials.
  • Quality Control: Assess the suitability of materials for re-shelving, notify supervisors of any issues, and determine responsibility for damaged materials to maintain the quality of the collection.
  • Statistics and Reporting: Assist in maintaining statistics for Technical Services using report software to provide valuable insights and data for decision-making.
  • Process Improvement: Implement procedural and program changes through workshops and direct consultation with supervisors to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed of library policies, procedures, and para-professional literature, and provide suggestions and public feedback to supervisors to ensure the department remains up-to-date and effective.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Associate's degree (AA) with one year of library experience, or GED with three years of library experience.
  • Skills and Abilities: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, valid driver's license, and ability to read, interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, sit, use hands, stand, reach, talk, and hear regularly.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
