Raineri Construction is seeking an experienced Estimator to manage the cost-esimating phase of heavy civil construction projects within our Civil Building Division.  Starting salary range is from 75K to 95K, based on experience.

The Civil Construction Estimator is responsible for leading the cost-estimating phase of a project and advising the production team through the construction management process, starting from the estimation of cost assemblies and procuring sub-contractor bids, through the buy-out of the project and hand-off to the production and project management team.  The Estimator will perform the necessary pricing of the work to be performed, garner participation from the subcontractor community, assemble the estimate on bid day, and submit, or coordinate the submission of the bid to the owner.  This includes providing initial cost estimates for bonding purposes and completing complex civil construction estimates for unit price and lump sum proposals.  An emphasis on technology and the use of estimating software to calculate production rates and materials quantities is required.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Monitor online plan rooms for new opportunities.
  • Attend Pre-Bid Meetings and Bid Openings.
  • Communicate with the pre-construction administrator on procuring and filing new plans and specifications as they are received.
  • Provide a conceptual estimate of costs to procure a bond.
  • Perform detailed specification and drawing review.
  • Understand clients’ and project needs.
  • Read and understand the legal aspects related to the Owner contract.
  • Lead estimating efforts through the bidding phase & buy-out.
  • Provide creative solutions to provide value in return for higher profitability.
  • Review the project construction schedule and assist in the preparation of the Mobilization/General Conditions costs.
  • Ensure adequate subcontractor solicitation during the bidding process by use of Smartbid, emails, and phone calls.
  • Ensure written proposals are compiled and added to job files after each bid.
  • Value Position – Look for opportunities in production and delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Clients, A/E Consultants, Subcontractors, and Vendors to ensure good references and/or opportunities for future work. Relationships are very important to Raineri.
  • Cultivate relationships with the minority-owned business community.
  • Conduct detailed quantity surveys on self-performed work of complex projects.
  • Analyze material and labor production costs for bidding.
  • Analyze sub-bids to insure complete scopes of work and review exclusions.
  • Update the market costs in the estimating software catalog.
  • Assemble the final bid cost and assist the pre-construction administrator with the preparation of the final proposal to the client.
  • Prepare a construction budget for the operations team.
  • Assist the Project Manager or team in post-bid review and sub-contract award.
  • Continue to work with the project team to ensure successful buy-out and production.
  • Aid the field operations team with change order pricing as needed.
  • Continually update the subcontractor solicitation list in the Smartbid.
  • Self-Development, including community involvement and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:


  • 5 years experience in construction estimating OR 
  • 2+ years experience in construction estimating and 3 years experience as a Project Manager OR
  • 2+ years experience in construction estimating and Bachelor’s degree in construction, or a closely related field.
  • Candidate must have an intermediate or above proficiency in MS suite of applications and very comfortable learning and working with multiple technology platforms.
  • Experience using Viewpoint Estimating (ProContractor) is a plus. (Viewpoint training will be provided)
