Summary

As the Tribal Food Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for the implementation, organization, administration, and evaluation of the pilot Tribal Food Distribution under the USDA Local Food Purchasing Agreement Program. This program is new to CRITFC, and this role will help curate this program into a larger-scale coordination role between CRITFC, USDA, and CRITFC member tribes. This role is temporary (1 year) full-time hybrid eligible out of our Portland office with the possibility of an extension if more funding is identified.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and lead the coordination of a nutritious, culturally appropriate, and accessible food program.
  • Create a plan to purchase fresh produce to complement the nutritional content of food box distribution.
  • Identify needs of operations and develop plans to fix and address issues. Discuss and implement changes with the department manager.
  • Work with volunteers and leadership teams to collect locally produced fruits and vegetables for distribution.
  • Co-coordinate all elements of the program to ensure cohesiveness internally and with other key agencies in the community.
  • Monitor operating budget and expenses.
  • Prepare quarterly financial and program reports for USDA and internal CRITFC reporting.
  • Coordinate with tribal partners, community partners, and volunteers to coordinate monthly or biweekly food distributions.
  • Occasionally present at various food system or safety conferences, Commission meetings, or other presentations as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned to promote the efficient and effective operation of the Tribal Food Program.

Qualifications:

  • An Associate’s Degree or equivalent with 2-3 years’ experience in the field of business administration, community development, food systems, social work, or related fields.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, through concise reports, memoranda, directives, emails, and letters. Must possess and demonstrate good writing, spelling, proofing, grammar, and punctuation skills.
  • Must have the ability and interest to greet the public and handle difficult situations on the phone in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to carry out assigned duties/projects in an efficient and timely manner with minimal supervision and must be able to handle multiple projects and work within defined timelines.
  • Must be able to secure sources of information relating to Tribal problems/concerns. Must become knowledgeable of the types of services provided by the Tribal Governmental programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of IL-TFAS and tribal communities along the Columbia River.
  • Demonstrated interest in providing much needed services to the tribal communities along the Columbia River.

CRITFC Motor Vehicle Policy

This job occasionally requires driving a CRITFC vehicle or your own vehicle for business (mileage compensated), and therefore you must be able to meet the terms of the CRITFC Motor Vehicle policy. Per the policy, applicants are required to have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for the past three years. This includes a three-year record clear of the following:

  • Reckless Driving
  • Driving Under the Influence
  • Suspension or revoked license
  • No more than two at-fault accidents
  • No more than one major violation or two minor violations.
