Organization Overview:

Beacon Hill (also known as Beacon Hill Preparatory Institute) is a non-profit organization that provides critical supplemental math and reading tutoring and enrichments to students in local Public & charter schools through-out Fair Park, Oak Cliff, Wilmer Hutchins, Pleasant Grove and surrounding communities. Programs include in-school, after-school, and summer programming. We ensure students Catch Up, Keep Up and Stay Ahead by developing data-informed intervention plans and supporting teachers and parents throughout the school year. Our desired outcomes are to help each student achieve grade-level proficiency in math and reading, develop confident learners, and level the playing field for all participating students.

Position Title: After School Coordinator

Status: Part-time 17.5 – 20 hours per week

Reports to: After School Manager

Direct Reports: After School Instructors

Indirect Reports: Instructors

Position Description:

To assist the After School Manager with the facilitation of all aspects of the After School program.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years’ experience managing a program for youth, working directly with children and parents.
  • Demonstrated experience in program expansion and youth recruitment.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, however, an equivalent combination of experience and training may substitute for a degree.
  • Candidate must be over 21 years of age and be willing to fulfill diverse responsibilities in accordance with Beacon Hill (also known as Beacon Hill Preparatory Institute) standards

  • Proven expertise in youth development programs
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Expertise in developing and managing instructional programs that improve educational outcomes for children and youth.
  • Skilled in building relationships with school personnel, government representatives, funders, parents, teachers and community members.
  • Skilled in data collection, reporting and evaluation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team
  • Ability to solve problems and implement solutions.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, manage, and oversee the daily operations of an assigned After-School Program serving elementary age students.
  • Monitor and supervise program staff to ensure the expectations and responsibilities of their position are being met.
  • Manage documentation and student data for assessment scores, attendance, demographic information, outcome measures and survey results.
  • Prepare monthly performance data reports documenting students’ progress for school staff and parents.
  • Analyze data and monitor students’ progress. Use the information to assist instructors with adjusting teaching strategies.
  • Monitor program effectiveness. Ensure program is meeting the elements and indicators of a high-quality After School program, as specified in the Dallas After School evaluation process using AQuA (After School Quality Advancement). Develop improvement plans for indicators not yet met
  • Develop and schedule program activities, with assistance from program staff
  • Assist Program Manager with recruiting and enrolling student participants
  • Serve as liaison with schools regarding students’ performance and program effectiveness
  • Communicate with parents regarding their child’s performance and program updates. Create monthly program newsletters
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Promote programs to maintain full enrollment.
  • Assist in the acquisition of supplies, equipment and food for assigned program sites in a cost effective, efficient manner.
  • Submit all requested data and reports in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Work with all site staff to produce a monthly calendar ensuring activities meet the needs and interests of the children.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • The typical work week of the After School Coordinator is:
    * Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 1:30pm – 6:00pm
  • There will be periodic staff training and supervision sessions, community meetings, etc., which will require evening hours. Sometimes a Saturday may be required to attend or conduct training or for special field trips.
  • Since public transportation is not conveniently available throughout the area, the Coordinator must have daily access to an automobile and be a licensed, insured driver.
  • Must be able to read and review all youth program records for compliance, physically inspect work sites for compliance, participate in recreational activities with youth which require walking, running, bending, stooping and stretching, both indoors and outdoors throughout the year.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The position is Part Time at a rate commensurate with experience and education. If selected for the position there is an unpaid flexible volunteer orientation of 20 hours to be completed.

Travel Requirements: In-state travel to Staff Development, Professional Development, Team Building events and other locations deemed necessary as part of job responsibilities.
