The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 109 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. Having recently completed a new strategic framework, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County—including NHMLA at Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits and museum in mid-Wilshire, and the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall—is looking forward to new building projects and campaigns, exhibitions, community outreach, and innovative audience engagement.

The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County seek an on-site Coordinator for the William S. Hart Museum in Santa Clarita, CA. This is a part-time, temporary position working approximately 16-24 hours per week, with some schedule flexibility. This appointment is through January 31, 2025, with the potential for reappointment depending on the museum’s needs. The Coordinator will often be required to work alone on-site at the Hart Museum, while collaborating virtually with colleagues at other museum locations. The Coordinator will execute tasks in support of the potential transfer of the Hart Museum to the City of Santa Clarita and the museum’s eventual reopening.


Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Meet NHM staff, people from Parks & Recreation, County and City of Santa Clarita staff on-site as needed

  • Meet and supervise vendors performing work at Hart

  • Check on condition of house and report back

  • Unlock and lock up house following set procedures

  • Communicate project status, roadblocks, and next steps to museum staff and executives

  • Sorting and inventory assistance

  • Take photos/find and identify collection items

  • Assist with cleaning of collection items, sorting, organizing. Other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer and as department needs.



This position has the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in education, museum, or non-profit industries.

  • Working knowledge of proper handling of historical museum artifacts

  • Excellent professional communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, and prioritize projects

  • In-person at Hart approximately 16-24 hours/week; on call other days as needed

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment working with a diverse community. Hourly rate for this position is $24.00 based on experience plus excellent benefits. This is a Part- time temporary (To be ending January 31, 2025) , non-exempt position.
