Hope Partnership for Education is an independent middle school and education center that provides a high quality, values-based education that supports and challenges students from adolescence to adulthood. Serving the Hartranft/Fairhill section of North Philadelphia, Hope was founded and endorsed by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus and the Sisters of Mercy in June, 2002.

Position Title: Learning Support Teacher (Math)

DLSA Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Head of Middle School

Position Purpose:

Hope Partnership for Education Middle School seeks a full-time 5th - 8th grade Learning Support Teacher who will work with students experiencing difficulties in math. The teacher will also work with the Academic Counselor to coordinate partnerships with local community organizations or universities for education evaluation services. In addition, the position may require other duties such as standardized test administration/support when needed and data analysis.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to use knowledge of content, pedagogy and Pennsylvania Academic Standards to guide instruction
  • Ability to effectively use resources, materials and technology in planning lessons for individual students, small groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers to design/modify content material to accommodate the needs of individual students
  • Ability to substitute for a teacher in case of illness or planned absence

  • Maintain a safe and adequate organization of physical space
  • Clear communication of procedures and explanations to students
  • Reasonable flexibility and responsiveness in meeting the learning needs of students
  • Adherence to school regulations related to attendance, punctuality, maintaining accurate records, communicating with families
  • Participation in school events, professional growth and development opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Minimum - BA or BS degree in Education or related field
  • Teacher certification achieved or in process
  • Preferred - experience in middle school
  • Knowledge of Professional Code of Conduct

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:


  • Generally works in standard inner city school climate
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, walk, see, hear, while being actively involved with the students in class
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
