POSITION SUMMARY

Facilitate access to higher education for College Credit Plus (CCP) students. Serve as the program advocate by initiating and maintaining positive communications with faculty and staff at partner schools. Ensure assigned students receive proactive, individualized mentoring, academic coaching, and support through their enrollment at Marion Technical College (the “College”). Provide admission, career, and academic advisement services that enable students and the department to achieve their goals and advance the mission of the College.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversee communication for CCP program, including correspondence with high school partners regarding student enrollment, schedules, grades, and application information. Coordinate communication to students and school officials for students on academic warning and probation status. Update social media with important reminders for upcoming deadlines, College event information, advising dates and open sessions, and public relations for the program.
  2. Serve as academic advisor for assigned students at high school locations where the College courses are offered. Coordinate advising needs and meet with high school students prior to the College census date of each term. Provide academic resources available to students and contact information to assist students after the meeting, process for engaging faculty and other campus resources, student handbook and code of conduct, academic impact of dropping a course after the prescribed no-fault drop date.
  3. Provide group and individual advising to students at assigned schools. These services include: advising and registration, assisting students with discerning career and college goals by providing information regarding educational options beyond high school, such as institutional choice, career options, admissions, and financial aid.
  4. Work with the Director to ensure Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) regulations align with communication processes. Coordinate ODHE required correspondence with the Director to facilitate the CCP admissions process, and to ensure pre-term and 21-day letter notices are sent to students, parents, and school personnel as required by CCP program standards.
  5. Plan and organize all College Credit Plus Nights at Marion Technical College and College Credit Plus nights with local high school counselors
  6. Provide assistance to promote department programs and assist in the recruitment, admission, advisement, and registration of students. Assist students with scheduling and registration for successful course degree completion. Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and career issues.
  7. Oversee Testing at high school partner sites and Guide students toward test preparation resources for College entrance exams (including ACCUPLACER, ACT, SAT, and SAT II subject tests), and assist with testing at high school sites, if needed. Refer students to other services, such as school counselors, school staff, College departments, and other agencies for assistance.
  8. Respond to inquiries from students, parents, high schools, College employees, and customers in a timely manner; maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with the College, HIPAA, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.
  9. Develop thorough understanding of College’s certificate and degree programs and the registration and record-keeping processes and procedures. Maintain an understanding of course transferability and the ability to communicate and relate to students.
  10. Provide assistance to develop and fulfill the College and the department's mission, including all academic programming, new program development, communication with constituencies, enrollment management, the evaluation and assessment of student learning, academic support services, curriculum development and program evaluation, courses and curricula.
  11. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures in accordance with College policy. Serve on internal and external committees as assigned, including community service. Adhere and monitor safety practices, rules, and other regulations within the College, high schools, and other locations.
  12. Maintain and make available a current schedule to accommodate student advising needs, including office hours, on- and off-campus meetings, classes, etc. Maintain flexibility to meet department needs. Maintain user proficiency for software programs, systems, and databases used by the College.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university required. Five years of professional work experience and strong customer service experience required. Knowledge of student development and resources to promote student success in an educational, counseling, and/or other student focused environment preferred. Strong ability to work with and relate to adolescents and young adults. Provide conflict resolution skills with empathetic listening to provide relevant feedback. Proficiency in social media, technologies, and Microsoft® Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Exhibit excellent English, communication, and composition writing skills. Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to work independently, complete projects with minimal direction and oversight, and ability to prioritize tasks. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Must have and maintain the ability to successfully pass a background check, including BCI/FBI, prior to and after employment. Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required. Smart phone required to allow access to MFA-protected services.

ADA SPECIFICATIONS

This position is classified, as Staff will perform a wide range of professional and administrative support functions for the College, primarily in an office setting. Further information may be obtained from the Office of Human Resources.
